Alright BIAB Ninjas I need your help. I have a Dell 5289 i7 16 GB laptop. It's at least 10 years old. I'm starting notice distortion and glithching randomly when using BIAB. Sometimes when I go to move a fader or adjust something while a song is playing it will glitch. I have BIAB 2019. This never used to happened I'm just curious could this be because it's a 1st Gen i7. It's so old I can't even update to Windows 11.
Military musician for 20 years playing sax, oboe, and clarinet. Used to gig 6 nights a week traded that in for a day job and gigging on the weekend. I like composing WWQ music. My equipment: i7 16gb laptop. I use BIAB, Reaper, Pro Tools, and Sibelius.

I have an old i7 16 gig computer also and it has no problem running BiaB and/or my DAW Studio One Pro 6. Although you could be experiencing some computer failure you should try to eliminate other problems first.
You didn't mention what audio interface (commonly called a soundcard) you were using. I get the identical problems you mentioned when my audio interface's buffers are set to low. Increasing the buffers always solves that problem on my system.
If that doesn't solve your problem you may have something running in the background causing problems. I would run the following free programs in order: 1-cCleaner - deletes temp files 2-rkill 3-ADW cleaner 4-Malwarebytes 5-your antivirus.
Other may have other suggestions.
I hope this helps.
{edit} I forgot to mention have you tried the return to factory settings yet. That may solve your problems also.

If it's a laptop, it's probably a RealTek soundcard.
Quick test: download and run a free utility called DPC Latency Checker.
Note, if you use Windows 10 or newer, then the program has not been updated and the new 'zero' is 1000. It still works, though. If you see any red spikes, then there is a problem caused by another program interfering with the computer's ability to read the mouse moves smoothly.
If this test is OK, all green or yellow bars for several minutes, then tell us, in BIAB, open Preferences, Audio. What is the driver choice there?
BIAB 2025 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 7 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Presonus 192 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Slate VSX, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.

what sound device are you useing ? even tho' its old it IS an intel i7 if i read you correctly. is this a one drive system ? if so beware that filling up one drive of a pc can cause probs if the traks are on same drive as the win OS. cos win can interfere sometimes. there could be a number of reasons for your issues. heres a couple of ideas too... 1. as long as it works run a latency monitor piece of software eg latencymon..do you get results in the red ? 2. if its an old hard drive go to a pc tech and see if you can install a ssd. if so youll notice an improvement. the tech will also optimise the pc n' clean out any junk. if your interested on pg here and the net are various guides to 'optimise a pc for music production'. finally if you DO decide on a new pc low latency is important to music production...so just dont buy any old pc. i recommend before buying checking the latency stats of various new pc's on this site. https://www.notebookcheck.net/DPC-Latency-Ranking-Which-laptops-and-Windows-tablets-offer-the-lowest-latency.504376.0.htmlit would also be usefull if you could post your biab audio driver settings as a pic. i'll now stop there as an intro to save any confusion. cept to ask are you useing any other music software other than biab ? does the pc run well on other software ?? i think we all replied inn the same time span...lol. there are lots of good techs here but they need more detail. happiness om

Thanks for the sugestions I did a reset and that helped somethings. Before the reset my battery life was barely two hours. After the reset it jumped up to 6 hours! As far as sound cards I was using differert VSTs. I noticed when I disabled the VSTs and just used a midi setup like soundcanvas it got better for a while but then glitched again. I'm gonna check the buffers like you suggested.

I'm glad that you got it fixed. Be sure to mark this thread as resolved, there is a button for that.
