Hi Janice, Bud and Floyd,
Oh, what nice vocals on this beautiful slow blues! Janice, you know how to outdo yourself again, while that looked imposible after hearing all your more recent songs! Your vocals shine like never before in this 8 years old song.
And Floyd on the lead... I never expected to hear that. He, the guitar guy singing about all the lost lovers. Marvelous, Floyd! Even Dave was flabbergasted!!!
So you may have guessed that I love the song, that's what I do, Hans

Nice blues. Such a good job on this.
I wasn't aware that Floyd was a lead guitar picker.... learn something new everyday I reckon.
Edit: I came back to listen again with the good buds. This edit is going to focus on the guitar. To start, the guitar is not loud enough in the entire song. The tone and treatment on it seems to put it in a different place from the rest of the band. Everything else is tight but the guitar is squishy, if that makes sense. Much of that can be attributed to the slow bending. It doesn't sound like it is cohesive. In a number of places, it was interfering with the vocals and was distracting from Janice's voice. Personally, if I was going to play that guitar part, I would back off the reverb and distortion. Clean it up and give it a bit more crunch. Make the fills a bit more concise and avoid the continuous bends. The vocals can bend and slur, but use caution when attempting that on the guitar. It's a delicate balance.

I could listen to Janice singing the phone book (remember those?) but I do love it when she gets the blues. And great to hear sticky fingers chiming in. The mix sounds fine to me (but maybe I have a bit of Janice bias too). Regards, Leon

It's not hard to hear why Floyd felt compelled to play a pit moaning guitar on this song. THANK YOU for not resolving...the story doesn't resolve and this is reinforced by the chord progression...it tugs with dis ease at the desire to please. Vocals are on point. Arrangement and treatment are spot on. Melody & narrative in the bag. The do right duo, (plus one) done double plus good.
Thanks Ray ... glad you agreed with the non-resolve. We've gotten hammered on that before. "dis ease at the desire to please" priceless Glad it all worked for you! J&B

Strange, but I seem to have a new method of listening on the forum. This is the 3rd song recently that I listened to, commented on, but then went back to listen again without pushing Submit. (or is there a conspiracy to remove my comments?) Since I love listening to this and all your songs, I have no problem listening gain and again. And telling you once again that this song is so incredibly blue. Floyd sounds so perfectly blue --almost crying on that guitar. Janice, dang girl, you can sing anything, and sing it so amazingly blue. This song has a ton of feeling --a metric ton. That's heavy.

I'm late to the party but super glad that I got to hear this one. I love the blues and this is better than a lot of the blues available from Alligator Records. As usual everything is professional. Loved it.

I'm a sucker for blues, and I love everything about this... but I wish the solo was a bit louder. Thanks for bringing this back with a facelift! Thanks! It was a fun remix J&B

Janice & Bud, floyd,
Very nice minor blues! The guitar this time is floyd, not Peter. Very moody. Janice shines as usual. Enjoyed my listen a lot.
Best regards.

One of the moodiest blues songs I've heard in a long time. And, man (or better, girl), the first "ridge" you sing is soooo good. Love it! And that Floyd guy knows how to play a solo that supports the song perfectly without showing off. Perfect! Thanks man. Those are some generous comments. I (Bud) never have much of an idea how Janice is gonna phrase a song until she says she’s ready to do a scratch. And about 95% of the time the one take scratch becomes the one we use. J&B

Janice, Bud & Floyd,
This version / mix is truly outstanding... Love the dark feel.
The arrangement and Janice's vocal sets the mood perfectly.
Loved it!

B,J&f, Great job everyone . I would call this Southern Gothic Blues
"Five generations have left nothing to call my own
Blood feuds and murder, nothing to call my own
Less I count seven sunken graves with one field stone"
Now that's the real deal! Authentic as can be. What a vocal performance and floyd compliments perfectly without gettin in the way. Clean, crisp open mix and those drums are given it the oomph!
Folks it don't get much better than this! Tom

Yeah! Not sure how I managed to miss this the first time around, but happy I get to hear it now.
Janice sounds great no matter what she does, but man, when she sings slow blues .... magnificent!
Good "blues" write Bud, and the mix works for me.
floyd "Sticky Fingers" jane, love it!
Good one guys and Gal, right up my alley. Thank you Dave. You certainly made Janice smile and we appreciate all your comments! J&B

Thanks for the backstory! Ain't it funny how things happen? Sticky Fingers. Unpredictable.
What a neat collab and a cool tune. And nice chops on that there geetar, but as usual, Janice steals the show:)
Take care.
Thanks! Yeah ole Sticky Fingers did a good job J&B

This all rolls smoothly along the line with those sultry vocals. Up with the lead I say.
Vic Thanks Vic! J&B PS We're good with the lead

J&B and Floyd...blues at it's best...super vocal...though it does bother me that Janice is so blue so often...get that girl some therapy in any case, super production as usual and Floyd (I didn't know he had that in him)...y'all give us all the blues...and we appreciate it! Thanks! Hahahaha Janice is the most positive lady on the planet and happy. But when it comes to singing she’s a method actor. Live it, breathe it, record it and move on. Bud

I loved it!
Janice shines as usual. I like the sparseness of the instrumentation, (I struggle with that) and it's a fine mix.... Plus who knew Floyd had those lead guitar skills! I thought the level on his guitar was fine.
Well Done!
Greg Thank you Greg! And we appreciate the mention of the mix. I think my (Bud$ decades playing in and recording bluegrass locked me in on open sparse mixes … for better or worse Thanks for all, J&B

Can anyone sing this good? Janice's voice moves smoothly like a flowing river, simply perfect for a moaning blues song which has really dark tone in the story even for a blues song. The band and the mix are excellent, Floyd's guitar is crying just like it should do. At 2:36, there is a sound that bit disturbs me, I know it is from the guitar, but between words it creates another kind of association with the title - sorry, I couldn't resist my dirty mind Janne

J&B (and Floyd):
Excellent, excellent . . . excellent. This is as professional as a mix can get. The vocal is exceptional—I mean, it’s always that way, but it just really, really pops on this recording . . Way to go, Janice!! And that lead guitar by Floyd is just steaming hot. And a first class write as well: “The heat’s been pressin’ me down like God’s own hand”. Wow, that’s killer stuff . . . as is the rest of the write . . . as is the whole thing. Beyond impressive!
My best to you all,
Deej
