Hi Dave. It uses ChatGPT as the backend via an API which is accessed via the app. It does offer some advantages over native ChatGPT in that it generates a specific songwriting prompt for you, you do not need a username or password and you don't need to login anywhere. Also, ChatGPT native is often not available (it reaches its capacity every now and then and you cannot get it. The API is always available).
The app is $12 here (Canada), but I think that's a reasonable price for what you have added. On my way out the door, but I'll pick it up later on today
I downloaded Lyric Notepad for IOS, it crashes every time on both my iPad and iPhone on the latest OS. I’ll give it another go when they update it next.

Yeah. me too. What a great pity. I did download to Android (I have a really crummy Android phone for testing my apps) and it works well there...Just my phone is rubbish.
I was going to contact the seller of Lyric Notepad from the App Store about the crashing problem. Then I noticed the last update was three years ago, I doubt thats likely to be usable any time soon on IOS.
On a positive note, I am getting some very good results from Joannes app. I have sent links to the app to all my friends who may not have heard of it. Hopefully that will generate more Sales for Joanne.
I look at them in the same way I look at the melodist feature in BB. It's a good way to get an idea started but it by no means is going to write you a well thought out hit lyric. It does however, provide you with a lyric that you can then apply some of your own creative juices, edit where necessary, and flesh out something a lot more creative. At this point it does seem to be a possible alternative to having a staring contest with the screen or a sheet of paper and tossing out ideas that become immediate dead ends.
All I've done to this point is to play around with it to see how it works. I've saved a few that showed some promise and when I have a chance, I will delve into the lyrics a bit further and see what I can turn up.
Anyway, that's my assessment of the state of songwriting AI at this moment.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.com Add nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both.
The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

That is exactly how I use the melodist, soloist, and AI.
My wife had her driving test today. She got 8 out of 10. The other 2 jumped out of the way!

For those that have downloaded my app, please update. I have included the ability to copy the lyrics to your clipboard because some people had trouble with the email not formatting the lyrics nicely. I will be updating the app quite a bit over the next couple of weeks, so please update periodically.
Yes, there is no shame (or instant fix either) in using these tools.
A famous award winning songwriter told me that he and his buddy always had a "hook day" at least once week where they would walk around a record store looking at albums in shelves, pulling out song titles they could tweak (or steal, I guess), looking at liner notes, song lyrics, seeing what they could borrow from or reinvent, and then head back to the house to drink and get loaded and write some songs.
Aside from the drinking and getting loaded part, what's the difference??
A song prompt is a song prompt, nothing more, nothing less...
