David and Rachel Radio 2.08.23: New Release_WIDE OPEN ROAD

Hey Y'all,

Here is the latest offering from Rachel and David. This week Rachel is singing again, on a new tune called Big Wide Open Road.

When she was singing, I was happily picking up a Sheryl Crow vibe, so I hope you enjoy!

Rachel seems to be getting some love on social media, so I am happy for her.

As is our new custom, links to our recently released stuff will be in our weekly updates below the current song’s lyrics just for convenience and to eliminate the clutter—in case you missed something and are just dying to hear it. smile Real tracks for this song are at the very end.

BIG WIDE OPEN ROAD

By Rachel Cintula and David Snyder

V1

Leaving here in the summer time
living young y'all is so, so fine
sun shining down
On our skin with the top down
Rear view showing that dusty town
We’re ready for miles
Spinning the radio dial
Packed in rubbing hips
In the car, road trip

CH

West towards the setting sun
East towards the rising sun
As long as summer is never done
We’ll take the high road, low road
Fast roads, slow roads
Drive through all the zip codes
Don’t care as long as we’re cruising
The big wide open road

V2

Memories capture road signs
Laughter tracing painted lines
Flying high on the ground
Good times all around
Rocking out to those summer girl sounds
We’re living these miles
We got endless smiles
Girl what a trip
All I can say is, this is epic!

CH
West towards the setting sun
East towards the rising sun
As long as summer is never done
We’ll take the high road, low road
Fast roads, slow roads
Drive through all the zip codes
On this big wide open road

BR

I don’t know if I ever will
Get tired of driving
Chasing endless thrills
I may hit some bad boy trouble
But I’ll deal with it you know I will
You know I will

CH

West towards the setting sun
East towards the rising sun
As long as summer is never done
We’ll take the high road, low road
Fast roads, slow roads
Drive through all the zip codes
Don’t care as long as we’re cruising
The big wide open road

David, you've unearthed a real gem for us, here. Bravo.

Rachel: superb. Carry on :-)

Great job, both of you. So well written, so well performed, so well arranged. Yes, the Sheryl Crow vibe is DEFINITELY there :-)

If I'm to be EXTREMELY picky: a little variation (light and shade, just a little more) in your tone of voice, Rachel, would be (for me - what do I know? haha) just perfect? But carry on as you are, if you so wish to, of course ... this is brilliant :-)

Congrats :-)

Musician17,

My thanks always to David for his arrangements AND for pushing me to grow in this industry, especially in the area of singing.

It definitely took less courage to sing this song. Tomorrow, I plan to step up to the microphone as a total diva. smile

Cheers!

Hi David and Rachel,

I've been enjoying these collaborations! And very nice to hear Rachel sing this one, lovely voice.

Definitely getting the Sheryl Crow vibe from this, and that's a good thing!

Very good song, good writing and choice of instrumentation.

Mix wise I think Rachel could be a little louder, there are a couple of spots where she is overpowered by the backing track. Or perhaps just a volume envelope to bring up the vocal during those spots would do the trick.

Looking forward to hearing more from you two!

Oh, such a good write, and I really love Rachel's vocal in there. You guys are so versatile in writing what sounds so good. Yes, I ditto what Dave said about the vocal track sometimes getting overpowered. The lyrics are fun and enjoyable like the ride y'all suggest. That chorus is my favorite. All those directions and you show it's all about the Big Wide Open Road.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Marty,

David and I frequently have discussions about how loud I am. I think I am very quiet and he says I'm louder than I think. smile

David you said the Realtracks are at the end but the realstars are at the beginning!

Rachel you have a great voice so it shouldn't be hidden in the mix. Tell David to turn up your volume.

This is a super song that only need a tad more volume on the vocal to be an outstanding song.

Good song with good vocals and good production, it's easy to hear that Rachel is getting more comfortable with her vocals.

For my taste the song has a bit too much words (per minute, WPM cool), at some places Rachel almost fights for breath and loses intensity.
Give her more room to play with her voice and it will be even better.

MarioD,

I was telling David yesterday that for me, what we put out is about the music and the lyrics, not my singing. I didn't know I would be singing so much as a songwriter. smile

Hey thanks everyone who has commented so far.

I know it means a lot to Rachel.

That vocal bump is a very easy fix.

Hi, David and Rachel.

Nice song!

There are a few places where that vocal bump is needed, but I blame the musicians - it's their job not to play over the singer! wink

David and Rachel,

Another impressive collaboration. Yes, the write and the vocal have a very Sheryl Crow feel to it, and the music bed only enhances that feel. Really well done! Keep the collabs coming . . . love what I’m hearing from you two.

My best to you both,

Deej

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
