Yes, I make sure I know all my Dell case and motherboard specs before I purchase. It's very important to know what you can expand to after purchase. This is especially important for CPUs. If the MOBO has an old CPU architecture, you may not be able to upgrade in the future.

Same for me, I always make sure I can add and change stuff as required. Good point though, as they both, HP and Dell have some cases and setups that are very limited.

While serving on one of the juries in the great Intel vs AMD trials in the mid ‘90s, I learned something: Neither side would do as well if the other went away.

This is not some marketing/theoretical mambo-jumbo but based on an important fact: Sensitive/critical government contracts (not just US) often require a Second Source. If one has problems of any kind, another supplier must exist. Intel’s is AMD and vise versa. Many of their product lines are not just similar — they must be identical.

Fun fact?

Yes, fun observation; they also have to be competitive in price to stay alive.
This one made me giggle
I'm quite sure every one of them also has servers with Intel CPUs, but I still giggled

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

I used Intel PCs for many years and felt a bit unsecure when switching towards AMD for the first time, but I didn't regret it. Less power consumption, less heat and same or better performance than the equivalent Intel CPUs.
The days where AMD was something exotic and struggled with incompatibilities are definitely over.
The money saved on the CPU I rather invested in RAM and fast SSDs instead. I finally built my computer myself. That's not as difficult as it might appear upfront. Reviews of components in magazines and manuals help.
If you go for a desktop, I recoomend look for something quiet with sufficient room and connectors for expansions. Important for studio work.
