A few days ago in an attempt to "clean house a bit" I uninstalled Sforzando thinking it was a program I never use. Now I'm having issues.

1. BILBAO.STY is behaving very strangely
2. I'm getting a yellow message
Could not load Hi-Q patch. Sforzando is not installed or needs to be updated (you need 1.901 or higher). [2023.1006.0, 2/17/2023 1:08:03 PM]
3. The error message below

Based on these messages I'm seeing I do need Sforzando.
Can someone tell me how to reinstall it?

Thanks.

PS> I know, someone give me the Moe, Larry and Curly award. blush

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Sforzando is required for "HiQ MIDI patches", and for Playable RealTracks, but is not otherwise required for BIAB to function. I would suggest installing it, as it will probably make your life easier. You can find the installer (sforzando_1.9xx.exe) in the bb folder in Data\Installers, or you can download the latest version directly from Plogue's website on the Download page.

Yes, Sforzando is necessary for Band-in-a-Box. Most of the interaction between Band-in-a-Box and the sforzando synth will be behind-the-scenes, so most users do not select sforzando directly in their workflow. Just "pick a style and press play" as usual. This is because the styles that need to use the synth are coded to do so in the style, using the Hi-Q patch.

You can re-install sforzando by running the installer for your main band-in-a-Box/RealBand. You will get to this screen where you can make sure that Plogue is checked.

Thanks Chantelle,
Is this the screen I should start with?
If so, what URL do I enter or do I already have the file locally?
And am I re-installing all of BiaB or just Sforzando?

Looks like Andrew was replying around the same time I was before. You can either install just sforzando from the Data\Installers folder that he had advised, or re-install the main Band-in-a-Box program. Either way should get it back. If you are going from the Install Manager, you need to select your Band-in-a-Box name on the left hand side, below the enter Download URL button. Then click on the button beside the Band-in-a-Box and RealBand listing to start the download of just that file. Once it is downloaded it will automatically open the Setup wizard and when you click Next on this window you'll eventually get to a similar screen as what I had previously posted.

I followed Andrew's instructions and installed sforzando_v1.933 with all of the default answers. I got no error message and it said it successfully installed.

I then re-booted my machine, deleted the BiaB file I was working on and created a new file and I'm getting the same odd sounds when using BILBAO.STY

Is there a way to confirm that it truly installed properly?

And there is a "Plogue sforzando" shortcut on my desktop.

This style uses one MIDI SuperTrack for the Piano, and the rest are regular MIDI tracks. None of the tracks have HiQ instruments assigned in the style that I can see. Perhaps you have set your default synth to Sforzando. Check in Options | MIDI/Audio driver setup | VSTi/DXi Synth button. By default, the default synth is Coyote.

With the Coyote, using default sounds it should sound something like this:
https://demos.pgmusic.com/audio/allstyledemos2/bilbao.m4a

Also, you should see Sforzando in the "Choose Plugin" window. If not, try rebooting BIAB. It should add it automatically on bootup if it is installed.

"Sforzando is necessary for Band-in-a-Box. Most of the interaction between Band-in-a-Box and the sforzando synth will be behind-the-scenes"

I wish there would be a way to disable that sticky dependency. Have not touched anything associated with Sforzando and I doubt ever will.

But each time MST is selected, it calls for it. That should not be like that. User should be able to say "Go away, Sfozando" and Sforzando leaves the stage.

Thanks again Andrew,
The Coyote Synth seems to have fixed the problem.

Enjoy your weekend and your Family Day on Monday.
