David and Rachel Radio 2.22.23: IF WE CAN MAKE IT THROUGH MIDNIGHT

Hey Y'all,

Here is the latest offering from Rachel and David. Rachel is taking a few weeks off from the mic and has minor surgery today, so everyone say a little prayer! smile Nothing too serious, but send one up. We have quickly entered family-like status and she is now officially a sister!!

Here is one she wrote the lyrics to called “If We Make It Through Midnight.”

This is a monster production, so I am sure there can be adjustments but I do like this tune. A smattering of tracks are are the bottom, but there is more, and then more, and a little more.

As is our new custom, links to our recently released stuff will be in our weekly updates below the current song’s lyrics just for convenience and to eliminate the clutter—in case you missed something and are dying to hear it. smile

IF WE CAN MAKE IT THROUGH MIDNIGHT

By Rachel Cintula and David Snyder

V1

Wolves have reached our door
Led here because I needed more
Now you’re watching my broken tears pour
Forever more, thought I would see the sunset with you every night
make love until we fell asleep in the dawning daylight

CH

Please
I need you
You can’t go
My heart is sure and my heart is the only think I know
We can make this right, ah we can make it right
If we can make it, just make through midnight

V2

We know what’s been broken
Half visible things now spoken
Hidden things can be awoken
Everything is open
Everything laid bare
We know what’s been between us
And we know what’s still there
And we know those millions reasons
Why you and I should care

CH

So Please
I need you
You can’t go
My heart is sure and my heart’s the only think I know
We can make this right, ah we can make it right
If we can make it, just make through midnight

BR

What’s been done has been done before
Please don’t walk out our door

CH

Please
don't leave me
You can’t go
My heart is sure and my heart’s the only think I know
We can make this right, ah we can make it right
If we can make it, just make it
through
midnight

David and Rachel...very pretty track and melody...obviously you guys have found a great songwriting team here...technically my only suggestion would be to bring the choir BGV's down in the mix...they seem a bit dominate for my tastes (for what it's worth)...I don't know if they're canned or not (BiaB, keyboard generated, etc.)...but to my ear one of the female voices sounds off pitch...anyway...prayed a pray for Rachel (believing all will go well)...keep up the good work guys!

Hey Dan,

You are right. I noticed that too. They are BIAB and I did notice that and thought I had pulled them down far enough. I usually don't get that with the BIAB vocals but in this case, well, you have good ears!!

It is usually me who is off pitch!

smile

I will fix that if we ever use it for something else, and make a note. I was so distracted by other issues, I guess I didn't catch it. There were 1,000 things to catch on this one.

Beautiful love song, I like the lyrics and the way you deliver them.

Good arrangement and good mix, but I would remove the choir and sing a harmony (or have Rachel sing), I think that would fit the song and the mood better.
But, overall you guys are getting better and better.

I don't pray, but please send Rachel my best wishes!

B.D.,

Yeah, you're right. I was pulling my hair out on this one, with so many moving parts that were driving me nuts. I will ditch the choir.

smile

P.S. Rachel says thanks and she's praying for you. Everything went well!

Also, I am working on a new tune.

Dear Lord, Please Teach BD How to Pray

by David Snyder

V1

Dear Lord
Please teach BD how to pray
we know he don't believe in you
but you love him anyway
and we don't want to see him rot in hell
or burn in hell that way
cause he has so many cool hip songs
he has to learn to play

CH

Oh Lord!
Please help BD pray!
That synth girl he has singing
can't show him the way
and those tech tracks will be useless
when it comes to Judgment Day
so please help BD
the guy from another country guy
the tech pop kind of Berlin black pants guy
the sort of synth pop AI synth girl guy
the guy who makes our day!
Our Lord
Please teach
BD
that BD guy
to get a brain
and not feel the pain
oh Lord
please teach BD
how.....
to PRAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am mixing this tune right now.

I think it is going to be a hit.

I might pull Rachel in on some new phat rhymes....

David / Rachel,

Love the song. It has a very early 70s ballad feel to me. Excellent vocal David.

All the best to Rachel.

A neat song. Three personal preferrence things jumped out.
1) I'm not sure if a back-to-back repeating lyric completely works here "We can make this right, ah we can make it right". Maybe "We can make it this right, daybreak is in sight" or similar?
2) To me the "ah" kind of sounds like an "or"
3) The band is too busy which detracts from the vocals. This is an intimate conversation between he and she. The background vocals (to me) don't support the melody or conversation well and there may be too many guitars. Sometimes less is more.

These are matters of taste and there is a lot of moving parts in this. So take all this with grains of salt.

We're praying for Rachael that all will go well.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Hi David and Rachel,

Had a listen the other day but didn't have time to comment.

I agree with others about the choir, but other than that, another great song from you two!

Hope Rachel is better soon, and looking forward to hearing more!

Will the real David Snyder please stand up. Well you have! I am glad to hear you singing in your real straight forward voice. It sounds good and makes these songs so much more accessible. Once again great song. The melody is really good. It is a lot of fun listening to this wonderful collab. Best to Rachel. It sounds like she is shy about singing. Keep pushing her. Tom

very interesting emotive lyrics.

just a couple of ideas mate..i hope you dont mind me mentioning...

i sorta yearned for the lead vocs to be up a tad in level
and in the choruses it would be superb if a female vocal
was singing with you. but maybe these are just my feelings.

its a great song david. and i know its difficult to do this given the limitations of project sudios..
but if you could record a live wonderful choir with this
song it would make this great emotive song elevated into the stratosphere imho. cos its such a good song idea and lyrics.

happiness

David, another great song from the dynamic duo.
Super lyrics, great vocal, and perfectly mixed.

Tell Rachel she is in our prayers.

Hi, Dave.

Nice song - the initial line got my attention. Good vocal as well.

I hear you on having too many tracks to wrangle - when I do it, it's usually sign that I should start cutting out tracks. I think a leaner arrangement is better suited to this kind of song, but since I tend to over-stuff my own arrangements, what do I know? wink

Anyway, good work both of you.

David and Rachel,

The roll continues . . . and I’m enjoying riding this with you two. I don’t know what makes me more envious . . . the quality of the stuff you guys are writing or the fact that you are so prolific. Love the melody of the chorus, particularly those opening lines. Brilliant—I mean—brilliant write. I think one of your best vocals. The version I’m listening to has the choir vocals and I agree that they are a bit too much and detract from your lovely vocal. I think just strings would work and would 86 the choir (or dial it way back). Beyond that, the production is solid and the song overall is superb! Great work!

My best to you both,

Deej

Thank you for the well wishes and prayers. I had the first of two scheduled skin cancer surgeries on my face this week. Please protect yourself from the sun!

David and I do have a plan for he and I to take turns singing, so I will be back on vocals soon.

I genuinely everyone who takes the time to listen and comment. It is very encouraging for me!
