Good story, and time well-spent reading it. Then the song...WOW. Very cool, Tom. I once wrote one with all Blues titles, but they didn't make as much sense as this one. Very clever indeed. I played many of those songs, and that is another connection this one has with your audience. Very relatable.

Enjoy whatever happens!

I must admit I don't know John Prine.
And I saw many here did, so I looked him up on youTube.
I listened to Hello in There.

But before I did, I listened to your song Tom.
And it's a very good one, with nice vocals that fit this kind of music perfectly!
Even better than the vocals of John Prine in that YouTube song...
I fear Prine lovers will hate me for ever, saying that. But it is what it is.

You sang and played it very good. And what an original idea to use songtitels for lyrics!
I never thought of that...

Hans

I don't know John Prine (too young, from the wrong continent, wrong genre preferences, you get the idea), but this is a pretty good song.

Great vocals, great arrangement and production, and I finally know who John Prine is/was.

Very cool intro story Tom. He was a force of nature. Awesome tribute. Must have been a real honor meeting him. Lovely song and excellent vocal. Perfectly framed with the backtrack. Well done..

(I know some JP songs, mostly the hits, but I never really followed his career or gave him his proper due. I suppose that's because his performances weren't as appealing to me as say, Bonnie Raitt's or John Denver's. Recently I heard 'How Lucky' at the end of that Dog movie and I thought, 'That sounds like a JP song.' Sure enough. I went home, learned it, and sang it for weeks. And the other day someone introduced me to JP's 'I Remember Everything.' Beautiful.)
I hope you listen to some more JP. He has some songwriting gems. Thanks for listening, Tom

Lovely song, those guitars are gorgeous, I agree with floyd about your acoustic guitar sounds.

Thoroughly enjoyable.

Tom,
Cool idea, backstory and excellent musical take.
Pro mix & listens well. Ending was neat, but too short.
Thank you for sharing.

Tom,

Great back story to this tune. Boy, does that acoustic guitar pop . . . and the mandolin as well (can’t believe that mandolin is a real track—it sounds so crisp and live). Beautiful production in that regard in particular, but really in all respects. Perfect backing vocals on the chorus and throughout. By the way, love your approach to the write and serves as a fitting tribute to one of the best. Terrific vocal . . . wow, really like this one a lot. Just excellent!

All my best to you,

Deej

I thought the idea you used for a tribute to his music was great, and you seemed to have pulled it off masterfully. I really like the instrumentation in this. I particularly liked how you introduced each of the instruments at the beginning - and the way that bass came in was really good. Loved the outro as well. Great music!

Brad, I hope you listen to some of JP's songs. He was a great writer. Thanks for listening, Tom

Thanks for the memories. I learned to write from that first record.

You get a better recorded acoustic guitar sound than anyone around. (jealous)

Production is "just right". Excellent mix.

I agree that the back story really took it to another level with details and a drink recipe! Love it!

thanks for doing something so cool for us all to enjoy.

Of course the production is outstanding as well!

SUPERB! In both concept and production.

Janice said that this gave her the same “tugging at her heart” feeling that John Prine’s songs do.
The little melancholy hints of his melody lines and the ways you used his song titles brings those songs forth so clearly.

Your vocals are great and, man, your dobro is absolutely perfect as is the acoustic guitar.
Great work also with the mando tracks. The open/airy NAILED mix presents a wonderful soundstage on the monitors.

We also loved your backstory and it made the song even more pleasing.

Thanks too for reminding us to listen to more John Prine! smile
And thanks for reminding us of how much we've enjoyed your campsite stories!

Thanks for the great review. I appreciate the mention of the dobro. Only someone with extensive knowledge of JP’s catalogue would have picked up on the melody nuances. Your remarks always make me smile, Tom
