Strolling at the Sock Hop

If you are old enough to remember sock hops and the stroll then this might bring back memories. Remember when just before the dance the gym was decorated with a ton of crepe paper so it looked just like a gym decorated in crepe paper?

BiaB style = Vinyl 33 New Orleans Rock n Roll
Tempo = 85 BPM

Bass - Ample - preset - P-Bass
Guitar = Kontakt - preset - Jazz Guitar
Piano & Strings - EZKeys - upright piano - preset standard
Drums - Steven Slate's SSD-5 - Vintage drums

I am playing the lap steel via my MIDI keyboard controller and the tenor sax via my wind controller.

Many thanx to Stan the Cornet Man. He used to be on the forums but hasn't posted in a long time. I helped him with BiaB and other music programs. He bought a EWI-USB back when I did. He only played it a couple of times. The EWI-USB survived a California fire and many moves. When he found out about mine he very generously gave me his. It took a while to get it into working order as it needed a XP machine in order to set it up. Again many thanx to a man I never have personally met, Stan.

Def. has the stroll vibe. I'm a little young for sock hops. There was nothing of it's ilk in my high school teen years.Nice ending too.

Hi Mario,

I remember sock hops, but they were on their way out by the time I reached that age, second half of the 60's I guess.

You captured the vibe pretty good I think. Lap steel sounds very realistic! Could be a bit louder in the mix for my tastes. And the sax is right on the money.

Nice!

Mario,

This definitely has that "Sleep Walk" sound... A bit 50s sliding into the 60s. So cool!

Ah, that New Orleans stroll. Man, you take us back. This could be in any movie of the 50s. I can smell the sawdust on the gym floor. That lapsteel and sax sound so good. And you kept it under 3 minutes for airtime. Wait, in the 50s it was 2:30, right? Hehe. It'll have to wait for FM. Always a treat, Mario!!

Enjoy whatever happens!

Great job Mario, definately has that sock hop vibe. You played that lap steel with perfection.
And the story about Stan is neat.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Mario,
Had to google Sock Hop to get visuals smile

Fun arrangement. Very realistic sax. I was playing it in a car today, sounds very good (I usually test "drive" my mixes in the car).
Good one! Thank you for sharing.

Thanx Ray. Sock Hops were a thing of the past when I was in high school also.

Thanx Bob. I was listening to and playing 50's and 60's songs in the mid to late 60's. Great eras for music!

Thanx Marty. I try to make my emulations as real as possible, sometimes I succeed and sometimes not.

Thanx for the time requirement for that era. IF I remember it I might use it in my next 50's song wink wink

Thanx so much Misha for this kind review. I don't test drive my uploads anyplace. I just mix and post. I'm a little surprised it sounds good in a car. Thanx for pointing that out.

Excellent tune. Very nostalgic. Good mix. You got that piano working nicely.

Loved that drum intro too!

I'm definitely too young to remember, but I still like the song, it's pretty cool what you create with those MIDI controllers.

Mario,

I had a definite idea of what sounds I might hear before clicking on the tune just based on your very appropriate title . . . and I wasn’t disappointed. That piano really captures the mood and feel and carries the song for me. Great playing on the lap steel. And that sax is the topper . . . Wow you’ve really capture the right sound and mood here. Excellent!

My best to you,

Deej

The modified doo-wop puts it right into that era. The sleepwalk was just the right distraction to sneak a little squeeze in, which I won't say she wasn't expecting. The jazz sax works in fine.

Thanx so much. That drum intro was just the last couple of beats from a B fill. That option is in the count-in window.

Thanx so much for listening and commenting. I have a lot of fun as well as a good amount of frustration with my MIDI controllers wink

Thanx so much Deej for this very kind review. I was just listening to various BiaB styles and when I heard that one I immediately knew what I wanted to do with it. I'm glad that you liked it.

Is the girl wearing a plaid skirt, bobby socks and saddle shoes, and one of those creamy soft cashmere sweaters with her hair in a bow?

Bright red lipstick and sandy blonde hair? And winking?

If so, I am hopping in the DeLorean right now.

0h wait a minute. Sounds like a famous movie. Never mind.

Yes, she is wearing all of those items and luscious red lipstick. Plus she loves my blue suede shoes!

Thanx for listening David.
