I suspect I'm in the wrong forum. If so please direct me.
I'm trying to do the song, "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye" by the Casinos - early sixties I think.

It's really just a basic I-VI-II-V but before coming back to the verse they slip in a I7#9 chord that really makes the whole song.

C//Am//Dm//G//C//Am//Dm//G,C#7#9 doesn't work
I even tried adding a 9th measure.

Any help at all!!

Perhaps this might get better a response if you post in the Songwriting section of these forums.

BIAB has the 7#9 chord. For example C7#9. The chord you've written is the 7#9 based on C#... i.e. C#7#9 which could also be entered as Db9.

If you are trying to get a C chord with a #7 and #9, BIAB does not recognise this. If you are meaning to play the B instead of Bb (in C7), Cmaj7 will do that. However, there is not a Cmaj7#9 chord available in BIAB. If this was the chord you are after, you could try Gaug/C or an EmMaj7/C.

That's a classic tune. Every online version I can find of the Casinos singing it is in the key of A. They also use a different arrangement than the online sheet music in the key of F. The Casinos version does follow a I/IV/II/V form with a bII7 passing chord to cycle back to the I. I sketched it out like this and it sounds pretty close.

Ahh... bII7 chord makes sense as this is a substitute chord for V7 so it will lead well back to chord I.

Using the roman numerals in your post, a I7#9 would be a C7#9, not a C#7#9.

Right?

BIAB allows 7#9 chords to be typed in but I believe you might not hear that chord if the style or real track doesn't include it.

I'm stuck in 1972.

Been playing this song for a few years and this is how I see it written out in BIAB.

The Casino's originally did it in the key of A so that is how I have shown it.

Notes:

Measure 1 is set to a tempo of 60 in case you loop the song. No need to if you don't loop it. It is also set to play 1 beat for that marvelous chord that makes the song which happens to be a Bb7#9 in the key of A.

Measure 2 is set to play 4 beats for the remainder of the song.

Measure 4 I muted the vocals. They don't need to play the entire song.

Wish I could figure out how to get just a count of 3 and have the Bb7#9 come in of the 4th beat of measure 1 but it still works the way I did it here.

The version I am providing is from the short version on YouTube

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1CMDBbylS4

There is a long version by the Casino's also here.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PT9Xs42n4kg

You can figure out how to do the long version just by listening to it. Your choice.

Try this.

This way works also on the song with a slightly different sound. Try them both.

Thank you very much.
I'm trying to do a Rock ballad instrumental.
It is a great song. The last doo wop song.

Thanks for the help. There actually two versions by the Casino's. The one you used is the better mix.

Thanks to all. I was unable to respond for several days.
I've always loved this song. I think it is officially the last Doo Wop song (not counting reissues, tributes and such. If you had asked me I would've sworn it was early sixties but it was actually released in 1967.
Wikipedia doesn't have much information about the Casinos, too bad.
I'm still working on it but the overall sound sounds right. I'm using:
Amaj7 //F#m7/Bm//Bb7#9
and it works. Changing the A to A Maj7 made a huge difference.
