I have the same version Band-in-a-Box running on two different windows computers

I'd like to be able to share the favorited styles and realtracks list on one computer with another

It would also be nice if you could save favorited list to an external drive, so that if you had to reinstall them on a band in a box reinstall or on a mac, if you have the same styles and realtracks on that platform

Interesting thought. When you open the Real Track generate option you get an option for favorites, so the system must store those names somewhere. If it can store favorite instruments and drum options, it has to be able to store style names. If the software could be written in a way to route those choices to a text file and pull it from the text file that file could be copied from computer to computer. Optionally, if they can just tell us the name of the file where those choices are stored, we'd have the answer. Logic says they are stored somewhere or they wouldn't be on the list.

I like the idea and will be glad to support the idea as a +++ Band-in-a-Box Wishlist +++ request.

I'm pretty sure they are in a TXT file somewhere, probably the BB/data folder ..
/though copying a file from one system to another has its perils .. make a backup first to be safe (as always)

FWIW, I use a file synchronisation tool to my machines in sync. I used to use Unison, but the Windows version was broken the last time I tried it. I'm presently using FreeFileSync, which seems a little more complicated but seems to work OK.
There are several similar tools out there ... I tend to be biassed towards those that work on both Linux and Windows, as I use both platforms.

Generally you can set up the paths to sync, file patterns to ignore, and they'll show file differences and synchronise both systems, asking when there's an ambiguity about what to change. Unison used to keep a record so it knew what had changed. I suspect FreeFileSync also does, but I've yet to check.

I'm presently using it to keep my Songs folders synchonised.

bb\Data\FavoriteRealTracks.txt
bb\Data\RDFavorites.txt

When I mark a style as favorite it will write a "Fav " in front of the name, I think that should be saved in bb\Data\stylz1.bin

copy these over to the other PC but back up the originals, then see if you get the same.

Just tested. I was today years old when I learned I could do that!

While you can't SEE what's in the bin file as a standalone because it's binary and compiled, when you tell the style picker to show only favorites you see only what you have set as a fave. Love it!

Thanks to musocity for piquing my curiosity.

One thing to add. When I went back in after closing a session and restarting, when I told it to show my favorites, there was nothing there.

I am guessing it is pertinent that I use Real Band rather than BIAB? One thing to test before I post this. The file that changed date when I saved a style as a favorite is titled StylzWindowXYWH.bin and it is 1kb. My stylz1.bin is dated 2-26-23 and it is 33,371 kb.

The styles I save during a session remain active during that session. When I close the program and restart there is nothing there as a favorite. But this is a start. If it works for you, it must work. I don't use BIAB but I am going to test it and come back.

Back again. I opened BIAB, saved that style. Closed BIAB. Opened it again. That style was there as a favorite. Closed BIAB. Opened RB. Went to style picker. Told it to show me favorites and that style was there. Yet the file you said to look at is still dated 2-26-23 when logic tells me it should have updated to today.

Just now I renamed stylz1.bin to stylz1.old and nothing bad happened.

FOUND IT!!!

In \bb\preferences is a text file called StyleFavorites.txt that has my 2 test saved styles.

With the same time and date stamp are

DEFAULT.ALI 4kb
interface.bbw 266kb
MySetup.DK 1k

SO... I then booted up a laptop, moved those 4 files into the \bb\preferences directory and the 2 saved styles are there!!

So, bottom line, yep, it works.

On my MacBook Air the file is located in

/Applications/Band-in-a-Box/Preferences/StyleFavorites.txt
