I would like to copy a certain number of bars of a MIDI track so as to paste them into a new MIDI track. I realize that it seems to be impossible. Has somebody facing this surprising situation ?
But, i want to copy bars from a MGU file and paste them in another MGU file and that is impossible....... Paste/copy can be done only within the same MGU file. Do you have the same understanding ? That very surprising ...!
Try this, it worked here: 1-in the piano roll view highlight and copy the section you want to move 2-click on file open and load your destination song 3-generate that song 4-in the piano roll view highlight that area you want to replace and click on paste

This was a bit of a surprise to me. So I gave it a quick try. I was able to simply copy and paste between different files if I have two occurrences of BIAB open at the same time and if I was moving the chord chart data.
But, this did not work when I tired to copy the midi data from one file to the other.
{edit} If you select merge it will add the copied notes to the original notes in the measure(s). If you select replace it will only replace the notes that are being copied, leaving the uncopied notes still in the measure(s).

You almost got me going... I tried to repeat what you are showing. Only thing different was I opened two simultaneous BIAB. It would not paste across the two files.
I know better than to go down this rabbit hole in BIAB. I have been here before. Which is exactly why you and I agree that this is best down in the DAW.

It is weird that this works using my method but not when two BiaBs are simultaneously open.
PS I never use this method as I do all of my work in my DAW. Daniel peeked my interest so I experimented and found a way to get it to work for him.
