i am working with a songwriter to work up some songs.
I want to send some quick arrangements early in the process.
I thought i could export direct mix from biab as mp3.
Seems I can't.

Can it be done?

If not how do others do it?
Was trying to avoid sending 30mb wav or having to load into DAW/audacity, etc.

Thanks.

Perhaps this belongs in newbie section.

Band-in-a-Box uses whatever MP3 encoder you have installed on your computer.

However, PG Music has never stated the path where Band-in-a-Box expects the MP3 encoder to reside. So your computer may have an installed MP3 encoder but BiaB is not recognizing it. Without knowing where Band-in-a-Box expects the MP3 encoder to reside, I don't know of a way to resolve this issue when it occurs.

What many people do is upload the file to a free, cloud service like Dropbox, Box, One Drive or Google Drive and then provide a link to the file.

Thanks for the quick response
Once I have the .wav Audacity does the conversion in a jiffy.
It works just fine.

It would be nice to know how to tell biab where my mp3 encoder lies. Clearly I have one somewhere on this machine.

Wouldn't mind losing the extra step

again thanks

Yep. The MP3 encoder with Audacity is nice. I have it as well as a second encoder from Cakewalk. Unfortunately, BiaB doesn't recognize either one.

"I thought i could export direct mix from biab as mp3.

What happens when you go on top menu: Audio>Export Song as Audio File and select MP3 from drop down menu and click Render?

is there an error it gives you?

That is the first time I think I saw a post of not being able to export MP3...

Exactly, but not.
mp3 is not a choice in the drop down box of my current version

one would think it would be automagically supported in the program.

Ohhh, sorry, oversight on my end.
You have "biab2022(Mac)" that might be the thing.
I am a Windows guy, not sure how Mac BIAB looks like.

Still, I would expect BIAB to be able produce MP3 without 3rd party solution on Mac. Try Live Chat, see what they say (just don't forget to mention Mac part)

Not really an issue

The MacOS supports AAC/m4a but not mp3. You can convert files to mp3 in Apple Music as well as many other apps, some free, but there are better CODECs now. This article is from 2017.

Fraunhofer released its MP3 patents and declared it dead. They also declared that AAC should be the new standard. Oh and, btw, Fraunhofer controls the licensing for the AAC file format, and makes money off the licensing fees.
