Hi There, Can anybody point me in the right direction, I have been a user for many years and I have only had this happen recently. When I export audio either using the drag and drop method or render to audio file method the levels are just to high and I am getting clipping and distortion. When I play the file in BIAB there is no distortion it is only when I export it. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Could you tell us more about which version / build number you are using, and what your audio interface is, audio settings, etc?
Were any recent changes made to your setup that may be related?

Hey There, It is the current build 1010, My Audio interface is for is a PreSonus audiobox 96 and I have not made any changes to audio settings that I am aware of. It is only when I export out to use in my DAW or elsewhere and not during playback in BIAB.

What format are you exporting in? MP3? WAV?

In what DAW are you experiencing the clipping and distortion?

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

A couple of things that I'd try that might help...

1) Under the "Audio" menu on the top upper bar, click on "Audio Drivers/Settings" and make sure that "Peak Limit" is activated.

2) Also under the "Audio" menu, click on "Export song as audio file" and try using the all the settings that I have on the image below. See if these work.

(Make sure that "Normalize" is off. This can easily be done in a daw. I'd also export as 16 bits and 44.1 kHz as these settings are BIAB's native formats.)

Hey There, I am exporting as WAV.

I use Cubase as my DAW but I also check the audio in any media player such as VLC or Windows Media Player.

It distorts in them all.

I wonder if you are having a gain stage problem?

Have you tried lowering the volume in BiaB prior to exporting?

Back in my day the only time we started panic buying was when the bartender shouted "last call"!

That would be too obvious.

Noel has two helpful tips that I would like to see answered. Is the Normalize box unchecked? Are you using 16 bit and 44.1 sampling rate?

The reason I ask is that you said you get 'clipping and distortion'. The clipping should be obvious not only from the sound but by opening the file in an audio editor and observing where it goes to zero. Distortion, however, could be what you are hearing from clipping, or it could be from some other reason, and we don't know what's happening in your case. If you have a soundcard that forced a 48 K sampling rate, for example, you might hear a sound you could call distortion.

So, how do you answer Noel's questions?

Yes it should be obvious but sometimes one can over look the obvious, experience taught me that!

I wonder if the distortion is caused by using Realtracks that don't match the tempo for which they were designed?

For example, if a track was designed to be used at 120 beats per minute (tempo), if that realtrack is in a song with a tempo of 80 bpm, that realtrack will probably contain audio artefacts when it's generated. As a general rule of thumb, and it varies from realtrack to realtrack, a useful tempo range is 15 bpm above and 10 bpm below.

The tempo at which the realtrack was created are the last three digits of the track's name.

For example... 2474:Bass, Acoustic, Held Ev 085 was designed to be used at 85 bpm (and will probably be okay within the range 75 to 90 bpm)

Out of curiosity, when the wav file is dropped into Cubase, what does the waveform look like? Does it look clipped?

It was obvious and yes, I lowered the volume of each track and then I realized I had accidentally raised the Master volume of all songs (D'oh). All sorted now thank you everyone for your input on this.
