Nicely put together. I would bring the piano back a touch, to my ear it's a little overpowering.
I enjoyed my listen thanks for posting.

Thanks, Rob! I sat and sat with this one, trying to balance the tracks out ... I'm not sure I can do any better even if I tried, lol ... but I'll see if I get time to try to see if the piano lowered in volume may work. I must say I like it like this, for now, but it's a thought! Thanks smile

Great song James.
I do agree that the piano is to loud and should come down in volume.
I do like the groove and melody, super job on that.

Hm, maybe just a tad. Other than that, a pleasant tune.

Mario and Mike: thank you, both. Really appreciated that you took the time to listen and comment, and really glad you liked the song.

As for the piano, you know the saying: if everyone says one is drunk, one ought to go to sleep. In other words, I'll give it another shot smile Thanks smile

Very sweet to listen to!

Good job James.

Volume preferences depend highly on playback systems.

I never trust my ears, really. I only trust meters.

For example, on vocals, I usually can't get some things right unless I use "Vocal Rider" by Waves because it is just too tricky in a complicated mix, and the technology is better than me.

smile

In some cases one or two dBs can make or break a mix, so I would just tally the votes, and if most people say too loud, do a version with the piano down 1 dB, and one with it down 1.5, or 2.

Then have a way to have a small group pick.

Just a thought.

Lovely tune, though.

As Janice said, “that’s a pretty little tune.”

She took her phone outside and watched the lightening bugs dance while she listened. smile

Nice tune!

It would have been nice to hear it on a violin or accordion. smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

James,

Very catchy and engaging . . . you did wonders with that piano (and I’m not quite sure how got it to play that melodically) . . . but very well done. Agree on the production that the piano can sit back a bit more . . maybe something to take the high end off just a bit more. Minor nit, though. David C. Had a good suggestion about maybe adding an alternative lead (violin or maybe even a lower sounding string like a cello). Maybe worth messing with more? Dunno.
Good stuff regardless.

All my best,

Deej

OMG, in all the fuss about my other song, I forgot about replying to thank you all for such kind comments about this one! Wow. Sorry.

Robert Dean: thanks!

floyd: thank you. When floyd jane - a man of few words, perhaps - says just what you said, one must feel happy with one's efforts, right? smile

Greg: thanks!

David Snyder: thank you. That's the thing ... I know nothing about meters, so I use my ears, instead, haha. But yes, it totally depends on the system one listens on ... argh ... I personally listen on headphones, so ... but yes, your suggestions make total sense, I ought to listen to them smile I mean this: thanks so much for such kind words and good ideas for the song!

Janice and Bud: aww, thanks! What a nice picture, of watching the lightening bugs dance whilst my music is playing smile Thanks so much!

David Cuny: there's a thought! Don't know about a violin, haha, but the accordion sounds an inspired idea! I will see what I can do, IF I get time ... these days, I barely write songs in between bites at mealtime or something ... wish I had more time to write ... but anyway, a great idea! Thanks smile

Deej: every song of mine needs more work on (apart from the one that David Cuny worked on!) smile . I guess I never think much of many of them, so I leave them at the "demo" stage. This one could do with a lot of refining, but that would take time away from me writing new ones, so ... argh. You have a point, though - and besides, if I do things, I should do them properly. Argh, again smile Thanks for listening, and for your, as always, very kind words!

COOL PIANO!! Excellent write. You managed to fill this waltz with some good dynamics-- not an easy thing for this genre, I think. Man, what a good write, James. Very talented composition. An eighteenth century house party. And it's still unmistakably yours, James. It has some of your signature pauses that we often hear in your singing style. So far I gave it 3 spins --one for each beat.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanks Marty! "An eighteenth century house party" - that was EXACTLY the intention. So glad it came through! smile You're ever so kind ... many thanks for your wonderful comments!
