Actually, it's well past time.

I'm finally getting ready to update my gear. I've been recording with XP Pro 32 bit and finally decided to bite the bullet and upgrade the computer to windows 10 64 bit and get a new interface. I'm planning to run both systems in a network for file sharing as, and until I pick up the new versions of my "got to have" plug-ins and vsts.

Gonna be fun.

I did the same but went to 7 in between, was worried about 10 but have not had any issues at all, don't think I'll be going to 11. With 10 you can have a motherboard crash and when you put a new one in it'll still boot and install drivers for new hardware.
Just make sure you make a backup clone of your drives regularly.

You're probably in for a much easier ride than you expect - I've found installation and setting up audio workstations MUCH easier with Windows 10 and 11 than it ever was with Windows XP or 7. Not to mention of course that Windows 10 and 11 are much more stable than XP.

Indeed, however I can't remember the last time I had a motherboard-related hardware failure. For me it's always the hard drive or SSD.

I went from XP to 10. I lost most of my fav plugin/VSTs in the process but that's fine as I'm keen to limit myself to the ones that I use often & well.
I had to upgrade when the interface with the XP started to have problems. New interfaces weren't XP compatible so I took the leap.
W10 is great with BIAB & Reaper so I'm pretty happy.
I've kept the XP machine & all associated gear and boot it up from time to time to ensure it's working. I made copies of all its contents to a couple of SSD/Ext HDDs so I have the machine & a back up.
I'm down to about five VST/Plugs I use regularly with about 20 for occasional/specific purpose use.
Now W11 worries me - hope fully the stupidity and fallout of the subscription stuff & needing to log on "online" has been resolved by the time I need to do it.

Cheers

Hope all goes well.

I took the plunge yesterday. Ordered a 2023 Mac mini M2 Pro. All it comes with is a power cable. You are left to your own re monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. but it is a beast regarding speed. Way, way faster than intel based PCs and Macs. So here’s hoping all the plugins behave!

Get PlugInfo.app — $2.99 from the App Store. It will tell you which of your plug-ins are AS Native or not. Not much of an issue with BIAB since it is not and must be run over Rosetta 2 anyway.

Good for you.
I plan to upgrade to the mini soon also.

I did buy a new ipad Air for gigging last week.
Slightly larger screen, longer battery. Faster processor.
Nice upgrade from my 2013 vintage Ipad.

What configuration (CPU,RAM,SSD) did you buy?

biab2025(Mac) Latest Build
Mac OS (Latest)
Apple Mac Mini M2 pro 32GB Ram
Logic Pro (latest or pretty close)

Apple M2 Pro with
10‑core CPU,
16-core GPU,
16‑core Neural Engine
16GB unified memory
512GB SSD storage

I tried to overload Logic by running multiple projects each with instances of the same plug-in on each track along with BiaB running and not a blip. During my pre-purchase research I ran across a video where a guy tried to bomb Logic with well 140 tracks on the same 16GB memory as mine. That convinced me to go with 16 rather than the 24 or 32 I've run on previous Macs. The 512GB storage is fine for me as I extensively use iCloud and external drives thus only have about 200GB on the SSD.

nice rig.
congrats

it does seem like the new mini's are spot on perfect for Logic.
Perhaps one day PG Music will decide to ditch Rosetta and supercharge the Mac product.
A true flagship it would be.
Sigh.

Hopefully before AAPL tells them Rosetta is dead..... again.

Fight the power

Not much of an issue in Logic either - I still have a handful of Intel-only plugins, and most of them work perfectly fine on my M1 (and the ones that don't are old enough that this is due to OS compatibility, not strictly the CPU).

Indeed - I picked up an M1 Mini just after Christmas with 16gb ram and a 1tb SSD and it's been able to handle everything I've thrown at it and then some - and this is even on songs that have close to a hundred tracks and literally hundreds of plugins all at once.
