Just had live chat online and tried what I was told but did not work.
I have just purchased Band in a Box today and in the process of setting it up.

I have put the Band in the box on C drive.
I have put Real Tracks Folder location on D drive.
I have put Drums folder location also on D Drive.

I opened the Asio driver Control panel but in the bottom right hand corner I get the orange box saying error window error 117
I have no idea what this means but I am assuming it is not a windows 11 error, but a window error when opening the control panel window.
It could be a fright if it is a Windows 11 error, but i have checked my graphics card and memory and has no problems and also done a sfx/scannow as administrator. I have a fast computer I7 with lots of ram, so no problems there as Cubase 12 and vst's is are the only things on it. Strictly for music only. I use an I5 for general internet and vpn.

I can open the control panel on my Focusrite Mix Control and also I can open the control Panel in Cubase without any error messages.
Nothing is terribly wrong as I have just set BIB up nearly and it does play the styles after a quick test
I have to do quite a bit of learning to get into the swing of using this program over the coming days.
I have sent in a support form but may take a few days, so i might as well see what the forum may saas you never know someone else may have had these sort of messages in a orange box at bottom of screen.

Any help appreciated

All the best
John

Hi John,

Welcome to Band-in-a-Box and welcome to the forum!

My guess is there is a mismatch between the Band-in-a-Box audio settings and Windows 11 audio settings.

Band-in-a-Box defaults to 16 bit depth at 44.1Khz sample rate. Windows defaults to 24 bit depth at 48Khz sample rate.

In Windows 11 type "Sound settings" in the Windows search bar and then click Open.

In Band-in-a-Box type Ctrl+E to open the Preference window, select "Audio" and make sure the "Audio Driver Type" is set for "ASIO" if using an ASIO driver from your audio interface manufacture or "WAS". With either driver, make sure the Band-in-a-Box audio settings match the Windows audio setting.

Also, when you are not recording in Band-in-a-Box the MME Audio Driver Type selection should work fine.

Hi Jim

I use a Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 first gen.

I chose asio and have the Asio audio driver window open and i have three allowed sample rates
44,48,96. using buffer size of 256 and if i open the focusrite control paneel then this message--- error window Error 117-- pops up, but nothing freezes. After orange popup displays the message It goes away after 10 seconds approximately.

Nothing has crashed yet on set up and all i wonder is, will something down the line go wrong.
I did send message to support, but nothing back as yet.
I also re-imaged my drive and went slowly again to install Band in the box but the same still happens. I have checked my machine out. Graphic card and memory looks good and no problems there.
I also run Cubase and a host of vst's without any problems.
So i do not know what the 117 message is all about.
I just hate those sort of things as it can spell out an "OH NO!!"somewhere.
My Focusrite driver allows three different sample rates and i cannot ajust them as they all say yes in brackets.
So my driver is giving 44000khz 24 bit buffer size 256.

Thank you for your reply, much appreciated.

All the best
John

I used to use a Focusrite 6i6 1st generation and never could get it to work with their ASIO driver. You couldn’t know this, but I build my own computers, was a computer science prof, and am a beta tester for BIAB. As Jim mentioned, unless you are recording into BIAB, just use the MME driver when using BIAB. Windows Error 117 is a device driver error. You will also need to ensure any digital audio device is set to a 44.1K sampling rate and 16-bit audio. Then make sure you select the same settings in the Windows audio settings. Move your BIAB files to Cubase and do your recording there.

That's curious; I have an 18i20 and it works perfectly with ASIO. Exact same driver.

Yes, that was what made it such a challenge, that it works for some and not for others. If I recall correctly, choosing MME as the audio driver for BIAB worked for all.

Hi Matt

I have a Focusrite 1st Gen 6i6 with the latest drivers and that got me out of a hole with Cubase as crackling was the problem. When i installed the new drivers all is now 100% with Cubse running Arturia synths and Sample tank max and a host of other things in Cubase 12. I also have an I7 32 gig machine which runs like a dream.
I will upgrade my Focusrite when the next generation comes out.

It appears to me at the moment that nothing is going wrong as i get sound from the Focusrite.
Nice quality as well.
It is only when i open the Asio drivers Control panel tab that the orange screen appears with the above error 117. So that is only checking things out.
The only thing that i am concerned about is what does it mean? and will it mess things up down the line when i really get into Band in The Box. WhatIf lol!!!!
This does not happen in Cubase 12 ,so i think it is a minor glitch in Band In the Box unless there is a property some where that needs checking or unchecking.
It says my Focusrite driver can use three sample rates and i have chose 44100.
I cannot see anywhere to see if it is in 24 or 16 bit mode at the moment.

All the Best
John

Microsoft state that error code 117 is:
ERROR_INVALID_CATEGORY
117 (0x75)
The IOCTL call made by the application program is not correct.

Also, it is possible that the problem may have been generated by the Focusrite and then picked up and reported by BiaB.

Hi Audio
It seems that you know computer language very well
Just to say that i have not had any operating problems yet.
It was of concern to see the orange box when setting BIAB up. (The ohh' no!! feeling).
I have not heard back from support yet as the weekend has got in the way.
I will just have to put up with it for now as it is no bother.

All the Best
John

Hi John, Thanks for your feedback smile

Thanks for the compliment. I generally do know my way around operating systems and computers, that's what I do for a living.

I put a suggestion in the wishlist section that it would be a good idea if error codes and their corresponding definitions could be listed in the manual and integrated help.

Good luck in sorting everything out, and has you have probably found out by now this is a very supportive forum.

Hi Again
Everything appears to be working ok loading in styles and playing them, also adding chords

I have checked the Memory, Done a stress test on my Graphic card Nvidia with Furmark, ran sfc/scanow and system health check and all seems clean bill of health .
I have no crashes yet
I think it is a Biab argument with Focusrite and Biab loves Orange boxes.

If anyone has crashes in Cubase 12 with Ozone 10 , i found one remedy.
is to click small gear icon top left and choose Constrain Delay Compensation from drop down.Worked for me and others.

Hi Matt

I should of said that Band In The Box has Error 117 when i used it in stand Alone mode Checking the Asio driver Buffer size and 44100khz.
I used stand alone to get used to the program

If i open Band In The Box in Cubase 12 and open its Focusrite control panel whilst Band in The box is open there is no errors happening and all works fine up to now at 7 ms latency.
This is a great program and i like the way of changing things to suit.
Once you got all the basic genres that you love, we have the ability to customize everything.
I will enjoy delving into Ban In The Box.
Thanks for helping Matt
By the way ,i love Hot Tubs and a glass of Dr Good!!! laugh

All the best

Please take a look at this post.
It is likely to be an ASIO generated error, but PG Music support may be able to assist.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
