Leaning songs is really the key to learning jazz. You then sprinkle in all that theory scales and arpeggios etc. Knowing the songs changes and the melodies. Very important. You start your improvisations by just playing around with the melody and then connecting those ideas using some of the tools of the trade. Jens is a good teacher.

Most of the YouTube guys are pretty good teachers. I think it is just find one you like and stick with it. Even better, find a local person. Can't beat that instant feedback.
