Hey hey, New member, old BIAB user. I thought I would stop in to to share my latest BIAB project. I want to take my song writing to the next level, live insitu backup band. Your comments are needed to help me get there, even if you can't stand my work, I learn from everyone. Thank you.

--------

Title: Lost in Thought

Composer: Donny G https://soundcloud.com/backing-tracks-donny-g

All instruments are recorded with BIAB 2023 using their styles, Realtracks and two soloists.

The purpose is using BIAB mixes as a backup band for my traveling busking.
BIAB 2023 alone not Realband.

If anyone wants to know the style number etc ;let me know.

Comments are greatly appreciated. I hope this meets the forum rules.

Hi Doony ...

Welcome to the forum! Good to have you with us.

Loved it! I write a lot of music in this and similar genres (smooth jazz, r and b, soft rock, pop country).

Everything fits nicely in the mix - all tracks have their space and are distinct. I really do think it's a great song.

Two things caught my ear that might warrant another look:

1. Just a bit more higher EQ on the drums might give them some additional "color".
2. The ending was abrupt - as though you stopped it at the end of a verse, with another to follow that wasn't included.

All that said, there's a lot to like in the composition. I enjoyed it!

Wishing you the best,

Alan

Thank you Alan for the compliment and the advice, the drums did need a bit more color. Yes, the ending is in need of work, sort of a work in progress I suppose. Thank you again very much.

Welcome Donny,
As a newbie to the group I think you did a great job.
I listened to the song at the top of your SC list,"Lost In Though test Jukebox.WAV" and liked the chord progression.

I agree with Alan, to my ears it ended too abruptly. One method to address this is to design your song a little longer than you actually want it to be and then in your DAW fade it out gracefully.

Looking forward to more creativity.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Welcome Donny,

This is a very good first post. I am going to assume that this is just fraction of your song, thus the abrupt ending.

I agree that the drums need more color but I also think they need more power. Try using EQ and compression to color and bring them more up front.

DonnyGee,

Nice composition, well mixed and listens easy. The only critical comment, the ending is a bit abrupt for my taste. Maybe let the horns stay for couple of more bars? Thank you for sharing.

Hi BabuMusic, thank you for the reply and compliment. You asked about the busking tour, as I call it, well, picture this. A tricycle with a basket on the back and in it is the Bose S1 amp, not trying to promote any product. On the front of the handlebars is the laptop with BIAB. I also have a guitar on my shoulder as I pedal, and headset connected to the amp via cable and wireless connections.

I use the 'Jukebox' play in BIAB to find the pre-programmed material and set a time period between transition of songs. My next step is to have BIAB change soloists every time and have the performances even more real time.

This is great for me, I get exercise and I can travel to the parks, river, shopping center etc....

Thank you again so much as I need more motivation.

Man, I'd like to see and hear that. Sounds cool, Donny. I don't suppose you'll be pedaling to a park near me anytime soon. cool

Fun song. The SoundCloud genre is listed as "Country", is that correct? I would like drums more pronounced, but that is subjective, especially for this style. Keep on busking!

Pleasant listen, nice arrangement of instruments.

Worthless nits:

1. You can trim off the count-in of the song.
2. You can edit the name of the song in SoundCloud so it doesn't end in ".WAV".

That was a rather abrupt ending! laugh

Hi Donny,

Welcome at this forum!
You made a nice, but short, song
I agree with those who told you how to improve your song.
The melody is just fine, but when it comes to the colouring and brightness of the song you can gain more.

I had to walk that path too and still am learning how to improve things.
But as long as the melodies are fine you have gained a lot!

I saw another song from your hand here, I will listen to that one too.
Maybe you already have improved so much there.
We'll see!

Hans

Welcome, Donny Gee!

A very pleasant and enjoyable composition. I won't repeat what others have already said, but they have good advice. I hope there is more to come in the future.

Welcome to the forum, Donny, that's a pleasant song you started with.

I don't want to repeat what has already been said, but one thing that could be changed is the dynamics of the instruments, at the moment they play at (almost) the same volume throughout the song and don't set any accents.

Donny...very cool composition...great use of BiaB! the only thing that caught my ear to suggest is (as Alan and others mentioned) the ending seems abrupt and musically at the wrong place in the song...also the entire composition could be longer...it was a great listen and welcome to the forum as a contributor...you'll have great fun here!
