No More

I think I got an idea for this song after hearing too many relationship songs smile I thought that it is like all those action movies with the same mandatory car chases and fighting scenes in a factory building full of steel mesh bridges. I remember how my friend asked if I've seen the latest Transformers movie and I replied that I have seen the first one, so I have seen them all. Later after starting the songwriting process around the idea, I realized that feeling all at the same time would be really painful... and there's the irony of the third verse, this song is basically an agonizing relationship song. I hope this fact doesn't make you feel too uncomfortable wink Also, I couldn't end this song with a minor chord... Well, you can freely tell me if I've broken songwriting rules, used too many cliches or if you just want to hear this song no more laugh

I used Synthesizer V Asterian as the lead vocalist, I tried to make him sound like Tom Waits, but basically I just turned the breathing setting to max. Anyway, BIAB provided everything you need for a cool blues backing band.

RealDrums: CajonFolkSlow8ths
RealTracks:
Bass #2915
Acoustic guitar #2677, #2916 (x2)
Electric guitar solo Blues Pat #4072
Fiddle #1594
Violin #2337

Vocals: Synthesizer V Asterian (lead), Kevin & Solaria & Natalie (backing)

Mixed in Cakewalk by BandLab

Lyrics:

No more break-up songs
no more heartsick blues
all the million ways
to say goodbye
have been used.
Don't want to hear another one
what's done is done, get over it
find a better subject than
the same old lame relationship.

No more no more
no more no more
if I've heard one
I have heard them all.
No heart needs to bleed
sow the gracious seed
do as I say
not as I do
irony or not
I am guilty for the blues.

No more action flicks
no more guns on screen
all the million ways
to kill a man
have been seen.
Don't want to see another way
to blast without morality
shooting on a steel mesh bridge
the same old lame banality.

No more no more
no more no more
if I've seen one
I have seen them all.
No heart needs to bleed
sow the gracious seed
do as I say
not as I do
irony or not
I am guilty for the blues.

No more hurting deeds
no more things to hide
there are million ways
to wound me, I know, you've tried.
Don't want to face another game
the castaway, the passion play
in the jungle of emotions
you're the hunter, I'm the prey.

No more no more
no more no more
if I've felt one
I have felt them all.
No heart needs to bleed
sow the gracious seed
do as I say
not as I do
irony or not
I am guilty for the blues.

The vocal melody is strong, aggressive and pushes the narrative but the music behind it is soft, sad & slow.
The "No more hurting deeds" verse sparseness works though and could be a storm's eye inside a more aggressive arrangement.

I'm not sure the duet in the chorus works. They don't seem to support each other.

Having written that I think it's the bones of a fabulous song.

Janne

It's a very good and interesting song, not a cliched one.

I'm a bit with Ray on the backing vocal (perhaps they could come down a touch?)

Nicely done and the vocal synth programming is good.

Janne,

Interesting and ambitious! A very fresh melody and excellent use of the Synthesizer V vocals.

Amazing where this technology is going. Very much enjoyed this

Ha!! That's cool, Janne. The first thing I was going to say when listening was that it reminded a bit of a (more polished) Tom Waits. The I read your post. The fiddle and violin (sic) was an interesting choice for such a sad sounding song of redundancy. It's a dirge that sends all the relationship songs to the funeral pyre. I always go with Ray's comments, but on this one there is flesh on them bones.

Yes. Someone asked, "Did you see the 3rd Jaws movie?" I said, "Yep. In the first one."

Enjoy whatever happens!

Janne, this is an outstanding piece of music.

I actually like the chorus as it is.

I can picture this song in a musical.

Outstanding work with those voices.

Loved it.

Thanks Ray for your insightful comment smile Yes, the song has many contradicting elements and I'm not sure why I did it that way. I felt that music cannot be aggressive, it needed to lighten the burden of the story and to add unsettling feeling.

Janne,
Looks like you are going through deja vu cycle. I think it is the opposite of "cliche" and aimed to inspire to be creative rather than use cookie cutter templates. Cool idea, very well constructed tune. Vocal melody sounds "familiar", but yet very original smile Very good effort and clear mix. Enjoyed it and thank you for sharing.
Misha.

Thanks Bob for your kind words smile Glad you think the melody is very fresh, to me it sounded somehow familiar, I'm probably copying myself... The modern technology (BIAB and Synth V) are ungifted musician's best friends smile

Thanks Marty for your always pleasant and perceptive comments smile You are very good at cracking my code and finding the right point, Jaws - that's another great example of lame reuse of ideas.

Glad you thought Tom Waits, although I couldn't reproduce his voice, I managed to deliver that idea successfully smile

"No more no more

if I've felt one
I have felt them all.
No heart needs to bleed
sow the gracious seed"

What a powerful statement ... yes!

We liked the irony of the soft, mellow band and vocals with the lyric shouting an “I can’t take it any more!” attitude.

We think you nailed the Waits vibe.

The BiaB session crew did a great job (excellent solo) as did you with the mix.

Well done,

J&B

Love hearing songs using vocal a vocal synth and appreciate the amount of work it takes to make them sound good. I have used Vocaloid and Emvoice 1 (trial version limited to 7 notes). I've now heard a few songs using Synthesizer V and think it is worth checking out (for someone like me who has more bad days than good days with my own voice.)

Your song is very interesting and not at all mainstream. Thanks for posting.

Hi Janne,

I am enjoying your songs for a long time now. This one is great too!
I love the lyrics and the rhymes in it. Very clever!
At first I thought it was my voice after I changed to a lower key and forgot to change my vocals accordingly in BiaB (f7)
But this is very nice. When the harmony vocals came in at 'No more, no more' I had to smile, because I liked that very much.

I also heard another song from you recentl, but not on the forum. I have to find out what it is called, but it was also beautiful.
I'm coming back o that one.
I noticed you're getting more handy with the AI-vocals with every song.
But what I liked most are the songs themselves. Your creativity is increasing at 'god speed'.

Very good!
Hans
