A "drop" - most of the instrument "drop" out to leave a very sparse (production) section.
Often only one instrument (plus vocal) plays during the drop - an acoustic guitar, a bass, a synth, a beat, etc.
It's prevalent in Pop music - to the poain of being rather cliche.
Country music has used it heavily, as well, over the last few years...

For your production it needn't be that dramatic... maybe pull down to an acoustic guitar, a very simple bass and just a kick (just an idea).
Basically a "production breather" that will help to "refresh" your listener's ears...



Floyd, gotcha! I've always heard of 'the drop' when used in the chorus as the "breakdown chorus". Great idea! I'll drop the first two lines and build it back to full for the last chorus. Na zdrowie! Dewey
