I don't know if this has been posted before. Apologies if it has.

This clip is Kevin & Natalie (Synthesizer V's electronic vocals) singing a cover the Frank and Nancy Sinatra's "Something Stupid".

Electronically created vocals have come a long way!

Yup, we've had several conversations in the past on Synth V and several of us having been using it. With enough tweaking, you can get these AI vocals sounding really good. Thanks for the reminder!

I thought that might be the case.

Nice to hear from you! Several User Showcase folks have become quite adept with the vocal synths and have posted some very impressive productions with good vocal range and excellent harmony parts ... a few of them are nearly "fool you" good. They sound IMO hugely more realistic than the examples in this link which shows it's synthetic sound in the first vocal bar. smile

BTW, what we have yet to hear is a convincing example of blues or soul with melisma, i.e., bending a syllable into several notes. The focus seems to be, not surprisingly, on pop at this stage.

Thanks Noel.
I don't believe I've seen that video previously.
Certainly synthesized vocals in music have come a very long way in a very short time.
A good find.

I was one of those folks who was admittedly against using synth vox because they were cheesy, and really sounded bad. The vocaloids in particular were just cringe-worthy. I rarely listened to a song more than a few seconds if it had a vocaloid singer. Until just a few months ago, when I heard a song with a pretty impressive female vocalist and after inquiring, found out it was not a real live female singer.

However, whatever Synth V is doing is really impressive. So much so that I took the plunge into the synth vocal world myself recently and started working with it. It takes a good level of attention to detail to get it to sound "real" but it's certainly come a very long way from just a year ago. With the advent of AI being incorporated into the database and synth engine, it's only going to get better at what it does.

This is a song I posted recently in the Showcase. It's my first attempt taking a song from start to finish using Synth V for the vocals. When I don't tell people up front it's not a real singer, I often get the response that.... "Wow, that singer is really good. Who is she?"

Pass it on

I still have a lot to learn about how to make this all work but I'm impressed with the results so far.

BTW: this is Solaria singing lead with Mai and Solaria on harmony.

Hi Herb.

Wow!!! That's extraordinary. You've done a brilliant job putting this production together. Everything about the song is seriously superb. I would never have known that these vocals were created synthetically. I guess that means I belong to the "Wow, that singer is really good. Who is she?" group of listeners.

Hi Janice and Bud.

Thanks for dropping by. It's really good to see you both smile I hope that everything is going well. That's really interesting information about the vocal synths. I haven't been in Users Showcase for some time and it seems that I've missed out on a lot of useful information. I've just listened to Herb's song. As you probably read, I was incredibly impressed. I'll have to look into Synthesizer V and the voices. I also like the thought of trying to work out how to create melisma if it's at all possible.

I'll let you know if I ever manage it!

Thanks for bringing this topic back. The progress really is remarkable.

Side benefit: I can actually understand all the words to the song! No more ‘round John Virgin’ or ‘kiss this guy’.

I’m hoping they can make a female singer, alto range, slightly whispy and occasionally flat, that I can use to sing a Brazilian genre song.

Melismata are no problem at all, you can make a whole song with them over one syllable.
For me it's more of a problem to write a real blues with bluesy lyrics because I don't have the blues, I'm in an air-conditioned room.

Not the usual BIAB forum genres, but like J&B said, they're pretty good for pop stuff.

Natalie has a breathy lower range. A touch of a Japanese accent, but quite pleasant.

Here's a song I did with her: Forever July (with SynthV Natalie)

Thanks for the laugh! I needed it. I guess that's why I can't write the Blues either.

Yeah it's hard to write a serious blues song when you're married happily to the same woman for 40 years, your dog hasn't run off or bitten you, and you don't have a drinking problem, all your bills are paid, there's a little bit of money in the bank and life is looking good....

Man it's hard sometimes....

Was that full or lite? That was nice with just a touch of synthy-ness to it.

It's the full version.

Currently, there are only two lite English voices that I know of - Eleanor Forte and Solaria.

Hmmmm ... No doubt you could do that but when I think of a melismatic singer my notions are of how well the bends enhance the melody at certain points (not sustained screams smile ), how well the choice of bends enhances the "soul" of the sound and how well it brings to life the actual word.

Maybe this helps explain my ill attempts at writing it out. Janice has been a melismatic singer all her life based on a love of early Black gospel, blues and jazz. When we posted this years ago it was criticized by a forum member as being too much vocal dancing. What do you say to that ... nothing but it's the way she feels it. But the song ended up being licensed a couple of times so we felt better about it. So back to my point I haven't yet heard any synth vocals in this style ... again not saying it can't be done just curious.

Janice and Bud, that was absolutely outstanding.

PS - there will never be a synth vocal as good as Janice sings.
