Well constructed and relatable lyrics, great band, excellently sung - all the usual hallmarks of a Floyd Jane song. Another winner, Floyd.

Leon

Perfect lyrics, that lifeworn voice that seems like it's been through everything and then some, and here you show you can do an up-beat, "cheerful-sounding" song, without sacrificing ANY of your qualities. Did I mention you can tell stories like very, very few ever can or do? Well, if I haven't, here it is. And, if I have, I say it again smile

Bravo.

Much appreciated, James.

Whenever I see something posted from you sir, I have no doubt I'll like it.
I like the way the chorus lyrically supports both verses even though they are separated by years; an awesome collab for sure.
And the message of standing your ground in verse 1 is spot on.

I agree with dcuny. My only nit is that it ended too soon. A good o'l jam/solo would have been great.
That said, this is definately radio-ready.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Nice write by Bill and you. Love your singing.

The mandolin is a stand-out, everything sparkles in the clean mix... My compliments to the bass player!

The electric guitar gives the chorus a build with some lovely arpeggios, and importantly the band sounds like a band.

It's got that "over too soon" sound that makes me want to play it again.

Much appreciated, Mr. Cuny...

Another fine collab from you and Bill!

“cause inside every boy is the beginnings of a man
learning when to walk away and when to take a stand”

We like that. Sometimes it is a hard lesson to learn.

This is a good one for listening while riding down our country roads.

The drums had Janice’s feet tapping. The mandolin solo and outro were very good. You always have the best sound from a banjo, adding texture but not dominating.

Vocals are excellent ... surprise, surprise smile smile

Terrific song and so well produced and delivered. In addition to your great vocals and arrangements, I particularly enjoyed the mandolin on the left playing perfectly with the guitar on the right. Great backing tracks.

As always, pure excellence. Best to you & yours ...

Thanks, Alan. Bill is a top-quality lyric guy. For someone who doesn't do any music (I don't know if he plays an instrument or not - and we wrote a couple dozen together) his sense of prosody is highly developed. That "sense" of what works in a "radio song" (i.e. something pitch-able in Nashville) is a skill that only a small percentage of people truly understand...

Floyd ...

I've met Bill a couple of times in Nashville back in the early 2000s (2008 and 2009, I believe). we were there at the behest of the late Bobbie Gallup - she was a dear friend. And I think you are correct that the only things he plays are the stereo and the radio! I once wrote a backing track for a lyric he wrote for a young, emerging local star near where he lives - I'm not sure if he would want his hometown named.

And yes, excellent prosody writing is a rare commodity. I do reasonably good with it when creating lyrics for Smooth Jazz and older RnB. After that, it tanks pretty quickly!

You two are a great pairing for country music creation!

A quick question: Have you ever written with Jeffrey Steele?

Floyd,

Another master class in songwriting and production. The specifics and details within the lyrics are exactly what a song lyric should have . . . excellent vocals and harmonies . . . and an overall impressive arrangement and engaging mix . . . and a really cool hook! Outstanding work!

All my best to you,

Deej

After the first verse and half of the chorus I thought, "It's kind of okay, but nothing that really grabs me," but with the second verse, chorus and outro you had me, I really like the song. Probably because I can't relate to the first verse, but I can relate to the second verse a lot.

I am always amazed at how you and Bill can tell the story of a life in so few words.

Hi Floyd,

A little late on the party, but -of course- I enjoyed this song too.
I always enjoy your songs, because f a bunch of reasons, but the lyrics are always nr.1!

I was a bit amazed you needed a co-writer since you know perfectly how to construct these lyrics/stories.
I like the term Floyd the storyteller, because that is what you are a Storyteller!

Bill was easy to work with. We did about 25 songs in about a 3-or-4-month stretch. I think we only disagreed on ONE line that entire time (and, of course, we worked through that). I did not run in the same circles as Steele (there were a lot of circles, needless to say...)

Floyd and Bill,

It's a beautiful track with wonderful lyrics that every listener can relate to! The backtrack is put together perfectly with the right instrumentation! This has a sound that reminds me of a group from the late 70's early 80's called Toby Beau (a great band)! I enjoyed this wonderful track as I know many others will also!

Thanks, TB
