A thorough search in the archives of FIFA revealed an unknown piece of music by Beethoven. Thanks to the wonders of the WWW we all can have the music on paper right away! Have fun!

Hi Mike, when I first replied, the graphic wasn't showing.

I think that perhaps I could play this one.

Those are the notes for those horns they are blowing at the game.

I thought it was a bflat they were playing and they ran about 12 bars with a 1 bar rest.

I must admit the filters being used by CBC I suspect are cutting out pieces making it sound like there is a dropout in the playing. But like Beethoven I am sort of deaf.

You have to use circular breathing to play that.

This was one of Beethoven's final works, so he didn't really know how it would sound. He was about 200 years before his time.

I remember that those horns were for sale when I was a kid in the 70's here in the USA at places like K-Mart and so forth. People did take them to games, but it was never the swarm sound that is playing during all of these games.

I heard that he became deaf from the vuvuzela player that was playing along behind him while he composed it.

Thanks for that Mike - and by the way, if things don't improve I'm going to declare myself an honorary Dutchman for the rest of the tournament.

And remember, Ludwig was deaf when he wrote that, so play it very, very loud ;-)

What Style should I use for this piece?
Just to jazz it up a bit?

I kind of like it with FUNKY2.STY to be authentic for Beethoven's era, but you may prefer another style.

As for the alto sax, don't transpose, play it as-is, along with as many other transposing instruments as you can gather to play it with you. And don't try to center the pitch, let it flow up and down naturally along with the volume (this piece needs to "breathe"). Or remove the neck from the sax and then play. Even more authentic.

Trust me, you don't want to be in Cape Town at the moment. Those darn Vuvuzelas are driving us crazy!

Was this Ludwig's original intent?
Is he then...the true father of jazz?
