This was really good
nothing bad
and nothing ugly!

I also heard a touch of Marty Robins in this one.
Great vocal, lyrics, and mix.

Two thumbs up.

Cheers Elliott.
The whistle was hard to get right. Had to carve it up a little.

I'm the only ugly one on it, Mario.
Before I started I thought of you doing the whistle on it with that magical keyboard of yours.

Thank you for those words of encouragement.

This is a treat, Vic.

We both enjoy western history, novels, movies and songs and, like lots of others, grew up playing cowboy. Janice even has her rocking spring horse from her childhood.

These lines paint the picture so well:

“Wearing boots with spurs that jangle
Hat pulled low. Ready to wrangle
Or maybe sitting in a small cantina
telling white lies, to a senorita “

Vocals, band and mix all are in the pocket.

Fun!

Hi J&B
Thank you for those kind comments.
Yes! A lot of time spent playing cowboys when I was a kid too.

I was given a hearing aid a couple of months ago with different settings for music and speech etc
but I'm reluctant to use the music setting as it maybe set up to increase the bass. I just leave it on speech which should be kind of flat and hope you people here can give me an idea on the sound I produce.
So far so good.

Hi Vic,

I don't know if you are right that you can only sing sad songs, but you sing them very well!
I could see that movie with your song before my eyes.
When I was young I also liked those movies. Times fly by.

I like this song a lot, your vocals fit like a glove.
I couldn't think of pasta, just enjoying this song with so much melancholy in it.
All I thought about was that bullet at the end ;-)

Don't we all want to be a cowboy down deep? Good song.

Regarding the loss of your highs.... we all struggle with that if we've been complacent through the years with loud amplifiers and guns. So... if you want to keep working.... use the tools available. Ozone 10 for example.... let it listen to the music and then, trust it. It beats guessing and then second guessing.

Thanks Hans.
I don't think I ever liked a happy song.
A funny song yes, but not a happy one like for instance, "You make me feel like dancing". Yuk! :-)

Very enjoyable storytelling, definitely not a chatGPT type of generic song. Feels like I'm there too watching the TV. Melancholy story told with really convincing voice that is such a unique one on this forum that itself is a reason to listen to. Interesting arrangement also, the whistle, the spaghetti guitar and the acoustic guitar support the mood very well.

Vic (and Mike),
Very cool tune. Arrangement is a BIG A+. Solid lyrics and phrasing. Liked it! On critical side, vocals seem to be a bit buried to my ears.
Thank you for sharing.

Hi Misha and thanks.
Sometimes I’m told my vocals are too up front so maybe I overcompensated. I will have another listen.
