I recently moved from a looping pedal for backing tracks to a tablet. I play a lot outdoors and seeing the tablet was very difficult to impossible at times. So I've decided to try an MP3 player. I'm hoping it will be easier to shade the screen. Picked this up as a Prime Deal for $97: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072C4YPCG?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_detailsI like the fact that it has a line out in addition to a head phone jack. It also has a gain control plus a volume control. Trying it out tonight.

I use a portable MP3/WAV player too. Yours looks very good, particularly the screen, and handles all common audio formats. The only thing I would caution you about is the audio or line out jacks, which appear to be mini-plugs. These tend to get dirty or bent, making an intermittent connection on a gig that, when fed through your PA, sounds like thunder. Treat those jacks with care.

Yeah, use right angle output jacks to relieve the strain on the very small, mainly plastic construction of the interior of those things. If you do want to know whether it's an absolute winner find out what DAC chip is used and look that up. I have a small Colorfly C3 DAP and the sound is fab but with no line out as it's very small.

Thanks for the info!
Right angle connector for the output jack sounds like a good idea.
Matt, maybe a dumb question, but with my tablet only one song at a time played. With the MP3 player it will automatically play the next song. Besides hitting pause at the end of each song is there another way to get around this?

Good question. Mine does that, too.
I get around that by one of two methods:
1) add sixty seconds of silence after each song, so I can get to the player and stop play
2) put each song in its own folder. On mine at least it does not go on the next folder to play a song automatically. Every one of these players I’ve seen has the ability to create folders.

Does that particular device play WAV as well as MP3? Or do you convert to MP3 with a lossless algorithm? I like to convert to FLAC. There's just something about the compression to MP3 that kind of "dulls" things down and in the live environment that's not a good thing.
As much as I love toys I may get one just because I can...
EDIT: I just looked at the Amazon page again and saw lossless FLAC.
Yep. Soon.

That is really tempting, Frank.
I wonder if anybody ever made a player that you can just plug a thumb drive into it? I'd like to have that where I could use a 128gb small form factor thumb drive.

I used it recently at an outdoor gig. I was able to read it pretty easily, plus the scroll wheel makes it real easy to search out songs. And it sounded great. It's all part of my efforts to make gigs much more compatible to limits of my nearly 70 year old body. Boze L1 PA, 21 pound Quilter amp, and now this player. Easy in ...easy out No complaints here.

I own a quilter. Play it all the time. Good amp.
However I’ve been using a direct for a couple years now on my solo gigs. Plenty of choices from quilters superblock, kemper, fractal, flyrig, etc
The L1 should handle it.
20lbs less to carry and sound just as good.
IMO.
