Interesting story, telling not much about the person himself except the six-string, but more about his longing for home, the lovely nature, those bird references and fogs, frost and oak trees really create a nice scene. And finally the beautiful conclusion "this is how we dreamed life would be".
I enjoyed the vocals expressing the sound of passing years.
Beautiful melody and the chord progression is smooth, even closer to soul than country.
The band is great, the harmonica brings nostalgic vibe. I can hear some wobbling (piano?) like from an old tape recording, but that just adds authentic ageing feel.

Hi Al
Great song
Has a very nice melody
And you sing the song well too
The background track fits really well
Especially the harmonica is a highlight

Alan, I'm glad you resurrected this one.
Great job on the EQing. Maybe you should have uploaded a before and after?
Yes the harmonies were at tad to loud but not enough to distract from the rest of the song.
Strong vocal, great lyrics and mix.

Two thumbs up.

HI Mario ...

Thank you very much for those very nice comments. Sure do appreciate them. Next time I post a redo, I might post the original plus the redo. The problem at times, though, is the originals often weren't created in BIAB. And, as you know, we're not supposed to post links to songs not, in some way, connected to BIAB.

I wish I still had the vocal stems from the original. That would make remixing so much easier. But I'm very pleased you appreciate the efforts I made on this one with just the EQing.

By the way ... I now own the full Synthmaster program and a couple of expansion paks. Lots of fun!

Take care ...

Alan

HI David ...

Yeah, I have quite a few in reserve - most of which I created on a laptop beside Di's hospital bed last year and earlier this year. 20 -25 in all. I like to allow at least five days between posts, or until the current song falls off the front page. I also have about 15 or so songs created in a different music program that I'm trying to recreate in BIAB - if I still have Di's original vocal stem. There are also a few that I might be able to add a track or two from BIAB to the original, thus making them appropriate to post on this forum. In fact, I have one of those coming up soon.

Take care. best to you & yours ...

Alan

I think the two lines are fine, but when you write something better... you'll know it. wink

Hi David ...

Sorry to be so late with a reply. Di's health is deteriorating quickly and she needs more assistance than in the past. She's the priority.

Delighted to hear you like this one! The original write came pretty quickly - just a couple of days, if I recall correctly.

Take care ...

Alan

Hi Janne ...

Thank you very much for such a very nice review! I appreciate that so much.

And yes, the song is more about the event of coming home to stay, rather than about the person.

The wobbling you hear might be a little bit of tremolo I put on the string section. That's the only thing I can think of. These old ears didn't hear it, but that's my best guess.

Best wishes to you and yours ...

Alan

Alan,

Really nice. A good write. It's a well-worn song idea that you've brought a "freshness" to.
Very sincere.
You sing it like you mean it.

Nothing wrong with those two lines you mentioned. At all.
If you want a slight change, you might try
"Been near everywhere
Seen near everything"
That gives it a bit more "local" (TN) sound. Gives you more of a "match pair" and it allows you to give it a little more SING since it dropped a syllable or two (always more important than it might seem...)

But, bottom line... I like it!!!

Thanks a lot, Floyd. I like your suggestion for replacement lines for the two I mentioned. If I can recreate this in BIAB, I might redo it.

You might recall that this is the song that you heard me sing on that other site and suggested I bring it over here.

As always, I appreciate, and hold in high regard, your comments and suggestions. Wishing you everything good ...

Alan
