It seems pretty safe to install the upgrade over the existing installation. The install seems to try quite hard to not damage anything. It will, I think, install any RealTracks and/or Styles that have had corrections made to them.

It should(*) leave alone any of your personal stuff like UserTracks and songs.

(*) "Should" actually means nothing, but I do believe the install behaves sensibly.

That said, I have a little stack of portable hard drives on my desk to which I copy things like this before any major changes "just in case". I can get a 1TB portable drive for £50 (~$50) and it seems a small price to pay to avoid possible heartache. Caveat emptor.

Unless you're using the audiophile edition, you can download the install files over again from PGM's servers if you wish. There is some uncertainty over the content of bonus packs that come most/each year, but many people believe they get rolled into later editions.
