Some RealTracks offer a "Direct Input" option. One way to determine if a RealTrack offers a direct input option is to look the RealTrack up in the RealTrack Picker window.
The "Direct Input Available" column has a letter "y" if the instrument offers the option of clean recordings without effects. This allows you to start with a clean track and add your own effects.
The Direct Input Available column is highlighted in the screen shot below.
