Nobody But YouThis is one Di and I wrote in 2010. All the backing tracks are from a different software than BIAB, with the exception of the wood block in the choruses. The wood blocks are from BIAB, as detailed below. Backing tracks are all midi except the one mentioned above: Vocal - Di Wood Block - RealDrums in Song: WoodblocksEv[single]^01-Clve32LH All Other Backing Tracks - Midis from a music generation program other than BIAB We recorded this about a year before we bought our first edition (2011) of BIAB. Di's vocal is a tad too loud. I knew virtually nothing about mixing back then - but have, I think, learned a bit more since then. I sliced and diced the BIAB wood block and EQ'd it a bit. I didn't use the clave portion of the Real Drums style - just the wood block. Although the wood blocks did add a little more "color" to the mix in the chorus, I primarily used it so I wouldn't feel guilty about posting the song here. We have about 10 other songs with Di's vocals to which we might be able to add a BIAB track or two, if you are interested in hearing them. I'd try to generate new backing tracks for those songs in BIAB, but Di's health doesn't allow her to sing as she did back then. I've received numerous comments and a few PMs requesting more of Di's vocals, so this is my way of providing that without running afoul of BIAB rules. I'm amazed that Di was able to get those high falsetto notes so cleanly with hardly any effort at all. Hope you enjoy it. That's excellent Alan. To be truthfull I think you should recreate this song in BIAB around Di's lovely vocal. Her performance sits well with the 80s sounding Yahzoo sounding backing BUT I'd love to hear her with something more you.

I'm guessing you don't have the individual tracks anymore, so can't build a new bed using BIAB. Good idea just adding in a BIAB element so you can post here.

Her performance sits well with the 80s sounding Yahzoo sounding backing BUT I'd love to hear her with something more you. Hi Ray ... Glad you like it. She has such a terrific voice - sad that she can no longer sing with the same depth and character. But she sings every day and sometimes finds much of the old "her". I don't have the vocal stem from this, so I'll just have to keep at it with the EQing. Thanks again. Always appreciate your input. Alan

Alan and Di...this is really a lovely recording of Di...I know the challenge of having recorded vocals that you wish you could have to marry with updated tracks from BiaB (most of my posts are using vocals that I've extracted from old tracks and given new life to with BiaB)...the technology exist now to do it...I use a Steinberg software called SpectraLayers to rip vocals off of old recordings that I no longer have the individual tracks to... the technology is not perfect as it leaves faint artifacts from the other tracks but these can be hidden with a few tricks and when the BiaB tracks are added to the vocals, they can rarely be heard...if you are interested at all send me a private email and I would be happy to help out...it is a great vocal!

This is a good composition. An enjoyable 60s style female vocalist song. Di sounds good. It's great that you capture her earlier in her prime.
PS, I still don't know anything about mixing.

I like it!  The rules state the forum is for BiaB users, but doesn't actually say that BiaB needs to be used - only that the tracks should be listed if BiaB was used.  Pulling vocals out of existing tracks is worth looking into. Other tracks will "damage" the vocals, depending on how similar the are to vocals, or how they mask the vocals. But since this often happens in places the mix will cover (for example, on drum beats), this can be solved. So... yes, I'd like to hear more, even if you don't apply snazzy technology on top of it.
