Mug-Slingin' Brawl on Soundcloud Mug-Slingin' Brawl on YouTube Where there is credit, there is potential for blame. So I blame BiaB for the story in this song because of the name of the Style that inspired it. Ironically, I'm not much of a drinker, and (other than karate tournaments) I was only in 2 fist fights in my life. Both of them were before I was 12, and both ended in one punch. I sang and played bass. Mug Slingin' BrawlThere was something goin' down way out on the edge of town. I detected from its sound it was a brawl. The sounds of broken glass and the bouncer on his [*****] told me I should go and have a ball. It's more fun than dancin' so come and watch 'em fall. A mug slingin' brawl. Well, I was in the middle of the fight of my life when a kitty caught my eye as a right flew by. I'd love to sit and chat, but ya see here where I'm at. I'm stuck in this mug-slingin' brawl. By the time I reached the place there was whiskey on my face from the throwing crew that had a few. I ducked right in the way of a brawler making hay and like the flying mugs I flew. I staggered back and fell and then bagan to slowly crawl for more mug-slingin' brawl. Soon the kitty came around and found me on the ground and said, we gotta get out of here. She threw her whiskey glass, and grabbed my arm so fast, but I reached for another beer. She slapped me on the face and said she'd seen it all in this mug-slingin' brawl. Lols go with this, Marty.
I can only remember one bar brawl I was in after a show (although there were many I escaped) when a guy jumped me while I wasn't looking. He wasn't happy that his girlfriend was paying me too much attention.
Between the punches I recollect my 5 foot 2 inch mother wading in and furiously smacking him around the head with her bag. Oh what fun we had in the '1960's
Anyway, your song brought back memories. Love the bass sound.

Hi, Marty. Fun song. The whistle on [***] was appropriately silly. Credit to you and Dave, no blame!

fj SOOOOOO glad you like it, Floyd. Just be careful what you drink with that popcorn. The wrong mixture could act like mentos and coke. Lols go with this, Marty.

Vic Ah, Vic, that's because you were a star. I was the typical bassist and had a hard time convincing the girls I was in the band. Man, the story you mention is TOTALLY worth your time to put to music. You are a great troubadour.

WOW !!! Grinning from ear to ear, my jaw on the floor, in awe. Seriously: this is superb :-) Made me smile, made me grin, made me outright laugh so hard, made me tap my feet. You are talented, far beyond your fair share, lol. The story in the lyrics is a hoot, and the music suits it like a glove! Hats off to you! :-)

LOVE it, you guys have done a great job! To quote yourself, "Enjoy whatever happens!" even if it is a mug-slingin' brawl Thanks, BD -- especially if its a mug-slinging brawl. Hi, Marty. Fun song. The whistle on [***] was appropriately silly. Credit to you and Dave, no blame! Thanks, David. There was a time I planned on using all of the usual sounds from the old Batman TV show --you know, POW, BAM and all that, but the song wouldn't hold up to that kind of intrusion. Cool story with a great production to bring it to life, Marty! Nice guitar lick too
Dewey Thanks, Dewey. You're right about those guitar licks. They put the song on a much higher shelf.

Very nice blues rock tune. I enjoyed that song.
If you've played in some of the kinds of dives and biker bars, in the early years, like I have, you learn to keep playing if at all possible during a fight in the bar.... I've played a few places that had chicken wire across the front of the stage to protect the band.
I recall a few that were classics. I won't recount them here...maybe in another thread.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

Ah, good question, Dan. They were almost identical. Each time I ran at least 90 feet at my opponent, jumped in the air and came down with a fist to the top of his head. Over. Thank you!! :-) Man, I'd love to see you listening, James. I totally treasure your commments. Very nice blues rock tune. I enjoyed that song.

HA! Right, Herb. Played in a band that thought the bar fight was a song request of sorts. One of my favorites was "I Fought The Law" for those occasions. Man, I'll be following you around now just to hopefully hear more of those stories. I was playing in coal country, and those bar owners refused the cost of chicken wire.

Swinging is important in a brawl, I suppose. Funny you say that about Suma. A friend from Tennessee, who hadn't heard the song yet, sent me some video he made of a Suma meet, but it was too late to include in the video. Marty

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!
With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!
Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
The 2026 49-PAK is loaded with other great new add-ons as well. Learn more about the 2026 49-PAK!
