Hello forum friends. Have not been around as much as I'd like but hopefully will be now that life is settling and the kids are off at college. During our family trip to Japan, I learned of Jimmy Buffett's death. I was a HUGE fan, and he was one of about a half dozen people who dominated the soundtrack of my life at one time or another. It amazes me how many people just knew of him as a drinking song guy since he was an incredible songwriter. At Disney Sea in Japan, this melody and concept came to me and I wrote it when I got back home and let the jet lag wane.
There are some references that probably only Parrotheads will catch......two are to two of my favorite songs (Changing Channels and The 12 Volt Man) which I think everyone who loves songwriting should give a listen.....Jimmy certainly made sparks fly in my head. Hope you enjoy and I'd love to hear what you think. I'll be back more often. Take care all. Greg

Pirate’s Prayer
Born on a Christmas Day
Down Mississippi way
Who’d have guessed the gifts that you would bring into this world
Key West to Margaritaville
For some, our hearts will live there still
Where the canvas of your dreams for us unfurled
I’ll say for you this pirate’s prayer
And hope that it will reach you there
And find you on the deep blue water
Sailing wild and free
May your boat be sound
The sun be warm
Your days be rich and free of storm
For you to find the joy you gave to me
Of me, there’s not much to be said
I’m just one more Parrothead
Who embraced the dreams you painted
With such beauty in your song
Just one more broken hearted fan
A kindred to the twelve volt man
Just trying to find a way to get along
Tonite I’ll say a pirate’s prayer
Thank you for the wonder
Thank you for the songs
Thank you for the magic places
Where everyone belongs
Thank you for the journeys
All the times my heart set sail
The peace your music brought to me
It never failed
Tonite, the hours I’ll quietly pass
Pour rum into my whiskey glass
And pray that mother ocean
Receives you pirate’s soul
And again you’ll sail on barkentines
Changing channels, changing themes
You were never meant for glitter rock and roll
