"Aurora V2: Gentle Lovelight" is the second of two instrumental versions of a song I wrote in 1981, the subtitle "Gentle Lovelight" coming from the song's lyrics. The opening bars with piano and then organ are from "Aurora V1" (yet to be posted anywhere) as is the final of the 4 guitar solos in this track as I couldn't better them. The 1st 2 solos you'll hear in the right channel, but sound like 1 as they're played by the same guitarist. The 2nd 2 solos you'll hear in the left channel are played by different musicians (see below).

"Aurora V2: Gentle Lovelight" instrumental © 2023 Chay Tana

Piano; Country Pop Ballad Solo Acoustic - John Jarvis
Organ: Country Rocks Guitar Solo, Pop Ba -- Gene Rabbai
Drums: Country Rocks Guitar Solo, Pop Ba - Brian Fullen
Bass guitar: Country Rocks Guitar Solo, Pop Ba - Tobin Frank
Rhythm guitar: Country Rocks Guitar Solo, Pop Ba - Darin Fovorite
1st Guitar solo: Outback Country Ballad Soloist - Johnny Hiland
2nd Guitar solo: Rode To You Country Ballad Solo - Johnny Hiland
3rd Guitar solo: Jovian Divine Alt Rock Soloing - unknown
4th Guitar solo: Modern Groove Soloist, Brit Rock - Dave Cleveland
Strings: Enya44 Soft Ev. 16 Techno Orche & Sirius Smooth Jazz hybrid

128 bars; 4/4 Am; tempo 100; Time 5:18

This VIDEO *IS VIEWABLE*! I've no idea why, but this is the 2nd YT link I've shared which has come up like this. Previous ones didn't. I checked my YT Settings and all is as it should be!

Super intro!
You have super skills in mixing many different RTs into outstanding mixes.
Great choices in instruments.
Another winner.

Thanks again, Mario! The "V1" which is a lot older I've yet to create good enough video for so hasn't yet been posted anywhere, but as that's one of my favourite tracks - also the song version I think is the best song I ever wrote - I wanted to do a just longer version, thus the "V2". But for once I just couldn't find the right different instruments' samples for it, so I went for 4 separate guitar solos (the 1st 2 sounding like 1 as it's the same guitarist's samples from different styles) as they still change the dynamics. At first I didn't think it would work, but it's a track I now love to listen to in compilations as it's a soothing yet eventful flow.

Nice arrangement, although - for my limited attention span - a bit long. smile

Nice work! I find the long instrumental one of the most challenging forms for BiaB but you've done a nice job keeping it interesting with the different soloists. Everything sounds great, too.

Thanks David. But composition length is the 2nd surprise I've had in this forum as I enjoy long tracks - even symphonies! - and I currently have about 15 instrumentals longer than "Aurora V2" and only 8 shorter! The other surpise is how many have commented on number of tracks used in compositions. Neither is what I'd expect from musicians.

Thanks Ron. I've now reached the point where I'm finding composing new isntrumentals challenging as besides getting the right chord structure, which is crucial, I can't overuse favourite soloists' samples as the same phrases recur which wouldn't happen with a live artists's solo. Once I have a the main composition sorted I'll try as many soloist samples as I can find, even those I don't think will work as sometimes an unexpected one does, then I'll try different arrangements with the best ones until I get the right dynamics. Some compositons I can complete in a few days, but some take a couple of months to get right. Re chord structure being crucial, I've found that the tracks easiest to complete are those which follow basic patterns like verse-verse-chorus-verse as samples need the dynamic change, while other structures which would work with solo muscians playing just don't come together using samples as you can't tell a sample to repeat riffs and licks, etc, or to say "Don't do that, it's crap!". I've one instrumental I've yet to make a video for in which the final and most dynamic solo only came together by 'cutting and pasting' together different sample sections from the same soloist. I've recently had to scrap one instrumental as although I liked the structure it just wouldn't come together with the solos. Another I'm currently working on has the same problem as it began as smooth jazz, but then I found rock samples which suited parts of it, but I'm having difficulty making either possible version work as a whole and I suspect that if if can finish one or both they'll go into what I list a s my 'B Playlist' as they don't quite hit the mark. Another I've only recently finished which has a stepped intro - new instruments coming every few bars - I couldn't find a sample which was potent enough for the final solo, so I mirrored the start by having instruments depart every few bars until only the drums track finishes it. I've called it "5 Minute Quickie" as it's like sex which builds up stage by stage, but then ends up disappointing for the woman! laugh As in the old joke: Man says to woman, "Honey, fancy a quicikie" and the woman replies, "??? ... As opposed to what?" laugh

It sounds like a movie track where the boy is driving 1000 miles all night to surprise his girlfriend.
I admire your use of the lead tracks. No mean feat to blend them together.

Thanks, Vic. I like the idea of the 1000 miles drive! When having one solo, any instrument, flow into another it's sometimes sheer luck that they come together, but most often it's a case of trying sample after sample until one finds one that fits perfectly.

Nice build up in the intro.
All the words about video - I was expecting , well, a video. I get it now.
YouTube does, sometimes offer better results for streaming too.
I like this but wasn't fussed on the 1st solo...neither tone nor pyrotechniques.
The organ sounds fab.

Cheers

WaoBand:

A very engaging instrumental . . . like the opening—that piano works very well all throughout the piece. Solid solos . . . interesting mix of solo tracks as well, but you’ve made them come together quite well. Nice work on this!

Kind regards,

Deej

Hi, Chay. You create interesting musical structures. I really like the build in this one. Not sure what is meant by Aurora vs. Gentle Lovelight, but if it's from you, it must be deep. smile An auroa is more the light of the whole person of which the gentle lovelight would be one of the most colorful beams. Speaking of colorful, this beauty has it all. COol opeing followed by a cool bouncy feel. The the guitar comes in to show the true light. Spectacular. I listend on both SOundcloud and YT. To me the Soundcould one usually sounds better, but that might be video distraction.

Oh, I read your comment about using the same soloist. Do you ever use the Ctrl+F8 function to fashion them just the way you want? It's a great way to use your creativity with their talent.
I also use it for each RT to make sure they are serving the song.

Enjoy whatever happens!

I like the song, it keeps my interest till the end. Love the organ.
I find the guitar tone a bit annoying, the one from about 3 minutes on fits much better with the backing tracks.

Definitely music for cruising down a lonely road. The piano a good backbone for this.

I will have to watch that video Marty posted here to see what one can do with CTRL+F8 in BIAB.

Thanks BabuMusic (I've forgotten your name!). The "Gentle Lovelight" is a part of one line in the lyrics. The actual song with lyrics was written about the 2nd great love of my life who I met in a 'Hotel Aurora' in 1980. And yes I do use the Ctrl+F8 function. Thanks also for the comment on YouTube. I'll get around to replying to it. smile

Thanks B.B. You're the 2nd person to comment on the 1st guitar solo (it's actually 2 solos combined from 2 styles by the same session musician), but I think that's down to taste as I really like it and others haven't stated that they're not so keen on it.
