Could be a couple of problems here. So first go to "Return to factory Settings" and see if that fixes it. I tried to reproduce you claim and can't.
If not then check under options-preferences - Output chords - Remove any checkmarks in "output chords...." or in "Write Chords...". Then try again.
Still hearing midi? Then R-Click on the track in the mixer and select "Track Settings" then "Edit Midi". What midi channel is the track being redirected to? What patch do you hear when the midi plays? Check your Default Synth to see what midi tracks are playing.
Be sure you have current build. What you describe sounds like it could be an old bug from launch a year ago.
