The flip side of lost love: Found love...

I can't corroborate this story. Legend has it Pat DiNizio was asked in an interview why he only wrote about relationships. “What else is there?” is his supposed response. This I believe.

Other stuff: me

Satin sheets
Thrown on the floor
As I walk
In through the door
And your smile
Makes me so warm
Then my shirt
It gets so torn

Oh, but what can I say
To tell you I love you
I wrap myself each day
In a layer of you

See the clock
Where’s the time gone?
It was night
But now it’s dawn
And I guess
I’ll take a nap
Close my eyes
And tip my cap

Oh, but what can I say
To tell you I love you
I wrap myself each day
In a layer of you

And the winter cold has no effect on me
Livin’ here, dyin’ here, in your memory
Bundle my scarf and put on my gloves
Feelin’ the warmth of both of our loves

Morning sun
Just hits my eyes
And I feel
So energized
You just smile
As the clock chimes
Then you say
“Hey, rise and shine”

Oh, but what can I say
To tell you I love you
I wrap myself each day
In a layer of you

Oh, but what can I say
To tell you I love you
I wrap myself each day
In a layer of you

You guys did a great job with this straight-up rock song.
Quite enjoyable.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

DC Ron,

I like the beat and groove of this one. Sounds 60s retro in a way, and it also kind of reminds me of the Smithereens. I might dial back the volume of the lead vocal a bit, and maybe just a tad on the reverb . . . maybe. But see what others think. It’s pretty stellar as it stands. Great, raw emotional feel to this. Cool tune!

All my best to you,

Deej

Yes, I can relate to that. Speaking of relatable, this song is so good. The feeling, melody and the lyrics, then the harmony all make a terrific presentation. Catchy chorus. Well done, DC Ron.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Bass Thumper, Deej, Dave, Bob, marty,

Thanks for the listens and input! Will listen more closely to the level and FX on the lead vocals. Always an area I fiddle with endlessly and never feel like I get quite right...

I love the key "I wrap myself each day In a layer of you". Have you ever thought about writing a song called Direct Current? smile

Thanks! That lyric is quite nice indeed. My lyricist gives me the lyric sheet as a finished piece, and I create the song around it. When I have a line as good as this one I will usually start with that line and build the song inside out. That is, I figure out the coolest way to sing that particular line, then how to get to that line musically, and finally how to build the verses and the bridge in support. It's a bit convoluted sounding but seems to serve the song more often than not.

In response to your question, I'll provide an old punchline, "No, but if you hum a few bars I can fake it."

Sorry, that's lame. Not quite sure what your question means. A few years ago in this forum we posted a Bee Gees tribute and somebody asked for a Beach Boys tribute. We did that and it was a lot of fun.

I agree with you and Dinizio.
I like the sound of this. One of my favorite types to listen to. Yes, you got a strong hint of the Smithereens here. Good vocal!
DC, eh. I'm over near Winchester and work in Ashburn. (I don't know if I mentioned that before.)

Ezekial, thanks for the listen! Glad you liked it. Only in hindsight did I appreciate Pat's apparent influence on my choices. If you're going to borrow, borrow the best I guess. And if there's a better album than Especially for You, I've never heard it. Behind the Wall of Sleep is RIDICULOUS.

Didn't recall that you're from around here--misery LOVES company. Winchester is lovely. Lots of folks in the DMV absorb the long commutes so they can live somewhere sane. It's just normal for most. We took the opposite approach and live in the middle of the chaos. It's a little insane but we save a lot in gas. Ha!

Thanks, firesong. Yeah, I haven't developed much musically since at least the 80's. But then again, the music from 40-60 years ago is still in heavy rotation today , which seems odd since when I was a kid popular music that old was virtually never being played on the radio (our version of streaming)...

The chorus is a lovely tribute to Pat & Co. Some of the lyrics seem forced but, (Then my shirt, It gets so torn), generally, they "sound" fine.
It does, to my ear, miss a classic jangle solo...you could've pulled that off as a rhythm solo with the arp guitar.
Sounds cool.

Cheers

Thanks, rayc!

I'll look at the arp guitars solo idea. There's space around the bridge to slide something cool in there, or add a bar or two, I think.

I didn't write the torn shirt lyric, but I like the slight ambiguity it introduces to the narrative. So many lyrics with adult themes lack any attempt at an artful approach these days...

Yeah, I probably yell at the kids to stay off of my lawn, too.

Hi Ron.

I really enjoyed listening to this.
The clarity of the vocals is first-class. It is so easy to hear every syllable of every word.
And the arrangement and production sizzle.
You've all done a great job!

It's two thumbs up from me!

Thanks, Noel! Nice to get feedback on the clarity of the vocals. I do try to make the lyrics intelligible, but still sometimes worry that I've over or under worked them. Glad you enjoyed it!

Cool sound, catchy chorus, strong Smithereens vibe.

Love the vocal and the jangly guitars.

I agree with rayc - there are places where the lyric sounds forced.

Nice song!
