I haven’t watched all of it but the mastering assistant looks like a significant kick start to those new to mastering.

The convergence of the IOS /MAC OS versions continue.

All good stuff for those in the Logic Pro World …

Logic is hands down the most remarkable DAW if you factor in cost and functionality.
$199 for life including frequent upgrades, hundreds of fx, drummers, sounds, amps, pedals, loops and on and on.
Oh and did I mention that exclusive of the above Logic has a huge array of features missing in many DAWs.

I moved over the decades from reel to reel to muti-track cassette to digital multi track recorders to Logic 12 years ago.
And there I will remain. smile

I downloaded the update this morning
I just used the new Mastering plug-in on a backing track I completed a few days ago.
It makes a difference... in a good way.

Help I can use .

That was painless. Usually, a new build of LPx takes hours to re-verify my plug-ins and VIs. This version remembered that from the last one and took only a few seconds to verify a couple things I updated this week and load. It's about time.

I don't work in Logic but many of my users do including my daughter so I need to pay attention and keep up.

and it has telephone support! Even though I don't use it in my own work, I have to agree.

The biggest improvement I see is that you can now record in 32bit float as well as work in it (that was added years ago). I've been doing that in Digital Performer for years. Although I export to 24 bit, recording and working in 32 bit float gives me increased headroom—it's a major time saver and changed my life when I discovered the benefits.

there are you tube vids showing logic running under win 10.
i wasnt aware. anyone done this without running in a virtual machine environment ?

mind you now that mac users are moving to the nice m series processors
i'm seeing more and more older imacs eg i5 cpu for a few hundred
bucks. Great deals out there. on refurb older macs.

anyone run logic on one of hp's superb powerfull z series workstations ?
refurb versions of hp z can be had for paltry amounts and have xeon
processors . ideal for music production/daw work.

i agree that logic mastering assistant looks neat.

happiness

om

ps forgot to ask. are there any daws for mac that let one record tracks in a lossless
compressed format ? also would love to know on macs what is achievable lowest latency ? i get 4ms currently and love it. very happy. can i get same with m series mac mini ? frankly if mac mini hit 6ghz m cpu with two m.2 ssd slots and 32 gb ram for under 800 bucks i would be all over it.

After a dozen or so remixes with the 10.8 Mastering Assistant (MA) some observations.

1. The MA definitely improves the flabby/muddy bass some forum (myself included) members opined using BIAB real tracks.
2. MA also improves BIAB Real Drums. The DrumSets are definitely crisper and better defined. Have not used it with a BIAB real drum stems project yet.
3. I'm getting about 3-4 db headroom gain with no clipping. None.

No doubt some may already be getting these results with their mastering chains and various plugins.
I too have found some (some) relief using. an number of the Waves plugins.
But its taken a lot of work and due to the varied genres I perform, results are not always consistent

For those who want some real instant gratification with just a slight uneasy feeling of borg assimilation, try it out.
If you're a Logic user it costs nothing but your time and of course the whole assimilation thing.
But that's coming anyway.

I’m a long time user of Logic and a huge fan of its amazing features and lifetime free upgrades. Having said that I find the new mastering function to be very basic in its functions - per its intent. But I’m also a huge fan of Ozone and love to create mastering chains from its many modules to meet the needs of my particular project. It also has auto and semi auto mastering capabilities but again they seemed to not offer what I’m looking for. For me how a mastering chain particularly affects the vocal, bass and any muddy aspects is paramount. And ultimately I want it to open up a mix and either dynamic eq or multi-band compression is essential. All with a huge FWIW!
