Hey guys...There's a story to this song and I hope it's not too long..one of my best friends and fellow firefighters Greg Nolta passed away from leukemia in 1995. I had been asked to officiate his funeral as I was his coworker, friend and the Fire Department's Chaplain at the time. As I drove his family home from the hospital we were crossing the Mississippi River from Iowa to Illinois and we saw the bald eagles flying over head. They flourish along the river. In those few moments Greg's family and I got a small respite from our shared pain. I wrote this song when I got home. It was with a broken heart as a prayer for what was lying ahead of me.
My cousin, Gene Simmons (no not that one) whom I have sang with in various groups (through 6 different decades) recorded the vocal for me. It's the only song that he ever sang through as the melody singer (he usually would sing only harmony parts)...I'm biased but I think he did a great job.
So as usual...if you do...thanks for listening...I appreciate your thoughts...Dan
