Hello all you knowledgable and helpful people.

I've built a track and entered chords , added soloists, keyboard and other instruments and now I find I want to insert 4 bars into the middle which essentially are intended to copy the previous 4 bars.
However, when I insert the bars (copied from the previous 4)they are ignored when playing.
The cursor highlight follows them but what plays is not JUST the inserted bars ,it sounds like they're ON TOP
of the following section which I'd assumed would move down. I'm sure this worked the way I'd intended in other projects.
What am I missing here?

did you hit play + to regenerate.

How did you add them?

Usually i go to bar settings and add bars type in where to add and how many then i copy and paste those or type them in then hit regenerate (play+)

First, make sure of two things:

1) the tracks are not frozen
2) you don’t have an audio file in the same folder with the same name as the BIAB song

Jon,
When you copied chords.... They do show in those new 4 bars you inserted in chord grid, right? They are not "blank"

If yes, press regenerate, as Rob suggested... It is strange as BIAB usually picks up changes and regenerates automatically in most cases.

If you used partial regeneration tool (alt f8), on any tracks then you need to go to these tracks, and regenerate from where your inserted 4 bars to the end of the song by using F8 / Alt f8 so it works correctly., not the main "regeneration" button.

I never had this problem maybe because I only had the 5 original instruments when adding, deleting, copy and pasting, etc, measures in my unfolded songs. The OP stated "I've built a track and entered chords , added soloists, keyboard and other instruments and now I find I want to insert 4 bars into the middle which essentially are intended to copy the previous 4 bars." Note I am assuming the OP used the utility tracks go add those other instruments.

My question to those more familiar with BiaB would adding soloist and utility tracks be the problem?

Sorted. It looks like one track for some reason would not regenerate. I can,t see why but I deleted it and I was then able to enter bars, regenerate , re setup the deleted track and regen again. this time it worked. thanks for all your help.

At the point where you've completed the ChordSheet and generated the instruments, the fastest and easiest method is to use a repeat for the desired four bars. Right click on a bar and select the bar to begin the repeat; select the number of bars to repeat; leave the Repeat at 2; and be sure the generate (insert) new bars is checked. OK out of the Edit Repeats and Endings Window.

You can confirm if the repeat is correct using the Fakesheet button in the Views Toolbar. This will toggle the Chordsheet to reveal or hide the repeated bars.

BIAB always plays in a linear progression so the repeat doesn't actually play the repeated 4 bars over, but rather, inserts 4 bars and generates new material. Repeats are a display feature only.
