Come On Over Here

The other day, Floyd posted a song he'd co-written many years ago that he said was "stupid." (It wasn't)

Di and I posted this one on the forum back in January 2013, and I commented it was "cheesy." He said it wasn't - it was a perfect song for the era. I decided to polish this one a bit and post it again - mostly because I won't have anything else ready to post for a few more days. Plus, I thought I'd follow up on Floyd's post of songs from years ago.

This is one of the first dozen or so songs I created using BIAB. It was created with Version 11.5. Think of Leslie Gore, Dusty Springfield, etc., etc. I think most of you older folks will be familiar with those names.

Di on vocals.

File:Di - Come On Over Here.MGU

Come On Over Here

(v1)
I see you looking at me every day
But you never have nothin’ to say
To tell the truth I’ve been hoping you might say hello
Cuz I’ve been sneaking a peek or two
I’ve been watching everything you do
I think you’re a guy I’d really like to get to know

CHORUS

Hey Baby, come on over here
I don’t bite but I might nibble on your ear
Don’t be nervous, don’t be shy
I think it’s time at last we say Hi
Yeah Baby, come on over here
Don’t be afraid, you got nothin’ to fear
‘Cept I might kiss you all over your face
Or maybe even a tight embrace

INSTRUMENTAL VERSE

(v2)
Don’t be shy, tell me what you think
And if you want, you can give me a wink
If you can’t tell I like the way you’ve been looking at me
You’re really cute and you’re sexy, too
Somehow I feel you would always be true
Don’t be so timid, go on and set your feelings free

CHORUS

INSTRUMENTAL – FADE OUT

(c) 2012 Alan D. David, BMI / Diana Randall, BMI

Alan,

This song and performance is a complete winner. Di sounds like she's at the top of her game. Strong vocals and in full control of the song.

The "polish" you added has really made this sound fresh and like it was recorded today.

Love this!

Alan & Di,

I still like it!

A nice write. Natural, conversational (without being Cheesy at all. "We won't rub cheese on your neck!")

Good tracks. Captures that Gore/Springfield vibe, for sure!

Di sounds great.

HA! What a terrific response to Floyd's smart song, which I also liked. Stupid, huh?

Man, I love that sax --those saxes, but most of all is DI's vocal. So superbly splendid. What a good write and presentation, Alan.

You and Floyd prove I love cheese.

Stay well.

Enjoy whatever happens!

I really like this (Leslie Gore-esk, to be sure)! The organ? is a bit too prominent for my ears but overall this was an enjoyable listen.

Hi Bob ...

Thanks so much for the very nice comments. We appreciate them. And yes, Di was at her very best from about 2006 until her health started its aggressive decline. She still sings and sounds great - just not the same as in previous years. This was recorded in either October or November of 2011. As I look bacl on these older cuts, it reminds me of how good BIAB was even then. What great software!

Take care,

Alan

Thank you very much, Floyd. Di never realized she could sing so good until about 2005 or 2006. None of her family would listen to her sing - they wrote it off as an old woman's fantasy, in so many words.

We're delighted this still rings nice in your ears.

I did a little "shaping" over on Audacity and then mastered it. I don't have the original stems, so all I can do is massage the final stereo mix.

Again, many thanks for the continued support.

Alan

Hey Marty,

I've always loved cheese - even before I knew how to make music.

Even though the lyrics to many of these earlier songs were rather basic in many instances, the purity and innocence of the music of that era has always endeared me to it. And yeah ... Di could really sing. When she recorded this, she was 66 years old.

As always, your visits always put a smile on my face. Take care.

Alan

PS: I've gotten back to the book you sent me. I'll give you my thoughts as soon as I'm finished. So far ... they're all good!

Hi Dewey ...

Thanks for dropping in for a listen. We appreciate that very much.

There's no organ in the band, so it might be the synth that caught your ear. I no longer have the originals stems, just the final stereo mix, so I can't do much about volume levels. But I'll keep your comments in mind as I record new songs.

Thanks again. Take care ...

Alan

Great mix.

Thanks a bunch, Mario. Yeah, it's sad to watch her decline so quickly. But she still sings on a karaoke site and enjoys it. Whatever puts a smile on her face is good with me.

Take care,

Alan

This is nothing short of phenomenal! Di is singing the heck out of this song (please excuse my language, but this is SUPERB singing from her!). The song is top-notch in terms of writing and quality, too ... my word, why is this not on radio, everywhere? I love everything about it. Sincerest congratulations!!!!!!!!!

P.S. I don't like to read the comments section until after I write down my own comment, so as not to be influenced. But, on reading them after I wrote the above, I'm even more amazed. I hope I'm still creating with a tenth of her verve when I'm, myself, 66. Who knows. Congratulations, though ... amazing job, well done.

James,

You are much too kind, mate!

And yes, Di's vocal ability was amazing - and still is, although not at the same level as this. her health has robbed her of many facets of her life. We love these 60s rock things. We grew up in the 50s and 60s and this was the music we listened to and loved.

Your kind words literally humble us. we sincerely appreciate them.

And yes, we've turned quite a few pages on the calendar. We're both closer to 80 than 70.

We have two more of these oldies coming up. )One is akin to a Lou Ralls style of the early-to-mid 70s, and the other one more of a Frankie Avalon style of the late 50s. Something he might have sung to Annette in one of their beach movies. We'll save you a front-row seat!

Again, many thanks!

Alan

PS: We have a dozen or so others by Di that were created in another music production program, but we can't find anything vaguely similar in BIAB to redo them. Thus, we can't post them here. frown

Good write, catchy song... but Di's vocals are the real star here.

You mentioned in an earlier post:

I assume you know that you can use something like Spleeter to pull out the stems, and remix to your heart's content.

That's not what forum guidelines say.

They says the forum is for "users of PG Music products" (which you are), and (emphasis added) "If Band-in-a-Box or RealBand have been used, please provide information as to which styles or RealTracks were used."

Hi Alan and Di.

This is me settling down and getting ready to listen to your song...

Honestly, and without any hint of hyperbole, this is fantastic! The song is written and arranged with so much skill that it overflows with pizzazz. And Di's vocals! They're extraordinary. Di delivers every word with full command of her voice over every musical nuance. Her singing mesmerised me, and I was left filled with admiration. Oh... and I've never heard the line "nibble on your ear" in a song before! I was a little bit envious that you two had come up with such a good lyric smile

This is fine music in every way.

Both of you have managed to conquer that elusive "it" factor.

I'm still humming it!

Hi Alan,

I really enjoyed this song and the excellent vocals.

Shame you don't have the original stems (including vocal tracks) because I would love to hear Di's vocals louder but it still sounds great.

Best Regards

Well, Di has a naturally nuanced delivery that is just so, so compelling I could listen to her sing anything. That's quite a gift. Great song, tastefully mixed, too. THANKS for preserving this and sharing!

Hi David,

Glad you liked the song. Di says "Thanks" for the nice comment on her singing.

And yeah, I've read that, as you have. My hesitation is that a few folks over the years have posted songs created outside of BIAB and caught some flack over that decision. I do agree with your POV on that issue. I just wish BIAB would make a definitive statement that literally says one way or the other. I just don't want to start a testy discussion about it.

I signed up for Spleeter and have used it once. It works pretty good! I've not reblended/remixed her voice with the "spleeted" effect, but I think it will be fine. Thanks a bunch for that info! Much appreciated.

Take care...

Alan
