Now and again, I like to voice a chord in something other than 3rds or 4ths.

It would be good to have a customizable voicing editor where you decide the way a chord is spelt, and which can be globally applied to all patterns in a style instrument.
How I envisage this working is to keep the rhythm timing of the pattern but with all notes shifted to one note which triggers the table. There, you could map each chord tone, 1.3 5 b7 etc to any note you want. It's a similar idea to what already exists, with those patterns that have no special voicing on (I think its F(5) or something). Or the ones that are guitar macros.

It's something that's been done before as far back as 2006 but no longer exists. I think one or two contributors here used to provide add- on tables already configured as an after-market product.

Best wishes

Alan

Fascinating. Alan, you always have great posts.

Even with Playable RealTracks, I can see the possibilities for this.

Are you by chance referring to the pull-down that had Open Voicing as the default? I'm trying to remember where. I always assumed that applied only to MIDI.

Well articulated suggestion, and definitely worthwhile, esp. for RealTracks.

Thanks Matt, I think that's right. Although the guitar macros pull down menu doesn't seem to need the pattern rendered as just a rhythm, with all the notes on the same pitch. So maybe that idea could work for a voicing table.

As I said it's a function as old as midi editing itself in all likelihood. For example, BIAB style editor already has a global velocity adjust parameter for user specified notes that target individual patterns, a whole row of patterns or the entire instrument. It's just a matter of turning that idea into moving the chosen note with a user-friendly interface.
Considering BIAB has the 'fix sour note' command in the mixer window track settings dialogue it's already doing a kind of intelligent pitch alteration according to a selected scale. So, in theory, it shouldn't be a big task.

btw, the program that had this capability I couldn't remember earlier was Jammer Pro.

Best wishes

Alan
