THE ROAD THAT LEADS ME HOME (Audio only)
YouTube video

After hearing Tom Adams new one (a top shelf Bluegrass offering) I was inspired to share this one on the forum. I have made a couple of runs at this Bluegrass-Pop (I guess-tell me if it should be differently genre labeled) song over the past few years. I was listening to it again recently and knew I had to do a better job with the vocals. My writing partner Ron Helm and I decided to re-arrange the lyrics also. I replaced the BIAB bass and acoustic guitar parts (with the exception of one rhythm track) with my own playing. I spent most of my time re-recording the background vocals and trying to get them tighter. I feel fairly confident that this will be my last try at this one. Thanks for one more listen! TB

The Road That Leads Me Home
Torrey Bliss and Ron Helm
© 2022 Glass Gate Music BMI

The day I left there were no goodbyes
Or a moment to share a smile
Now I find myself out here alone
On the road there’s lots of time to think
And dwell on those mistakes I make
And wonder if I’m needed any more

I've got a fire burning deep, deep inside
It’s keeping me and my dream, my dream alive

Oh, to get back those old memories
And live them once again
Can you help me find the road that leads me home
Still I feel no guarantee
That home awaits for me anymore

I’ve been on this road so long
I don't know why I’m here
Can you help me find the one that leads me home
I guess it’s true my life’s the sum
Of the choices that I’ve made
Yet the more I learn the less I seem to know

Still, there’s a fire burning deep, deep inside
It’s keeping me and my dream still alive

Oh, to get back those old memories
And live them once again
Can you help me find the road that leads me home
I want to soar on wings of love and let them carry me
Along the narrow winding road that leads me home
Still I can't help wondering
Does home await for me anymore

Hi Torrey ...

I always know I'll have a great listen every time I click onto one of your songs. I just never know which flavor of wonderful it will be. This is a very delicious flavor!

Those vocals are insanely good - fabulous! And all the supporting tracks are spot on. You're an amazing talent!

Wishing you the very best.

Alan

Hi Torrey.
Great track sounds, driving rhythm and vocal. I would turn down the lead vocal maybe about 3db so it fits in with the other tracks more snugly.
Excellent.

Ain't nothing you and Ron can't do when it comes to music. Genres are for A&R music cats and record stores, but not for your creative efforts. That said, I definitely wouldn't call this Bluegrass. Haha!! It's simply good music.

Love the lyrics and the melody drives us around with such ease. Listened at first to just the music, then the video. Everything is always so professionally done. Cool guitar. Good music, good band, great vocals. Much fun.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Torrey, those are some amazingly beautiful vocals. I like the write and the instrumentation. The solo is great. This fits nicely under the big umbrella of Americana. You should do more of this unique style. Oh and thanks for the shout out of my Bluegrass offering. Extremely well recorded and mixed. Much enjoyed,Tom

Torrey, honestly, this is stunningly good. Great song, vocal performance and mix. But the BGVs are insane. Had to listen to parts again just to appreciate how you arranged the BGVs against the band and lead vocal. I'd agree with the "not bluegrass" assessment. But it is a ripping good tune for sure!

Those vocals are great!

And the arrangement is great, but - and it's probably just me - there's something off about the drum. It feels like it's just a bit late and holding back the beat instead of propelling it forward.

Then again, I could be completely wrong. smile

Anyway, love every version of the song, including this!

Hi Torrey,

I always had that feeling you were the master on chorusses. Always so catchy. And this song is no exception to that feeling.
The are good! And the bg-vocals fit very well (of course).
I like that bluegrass melody and instruments here. They work out very good.
I still don't dare making songs in that style. I think (at least) my tongue will get hurt very badly.
So, I don't think you have to make a new version of it, this is a very good one!

We remember the song and love this revision also.
Uptempo country rock featuring mandolin would be our genre offering ... from a couple of folks who played traditional bluegrass in bands for too long! smile

It immediately reminded us of the early eagles (Bernie Leadon era) regarding the excellent lead vocal, finely textured harmonies and the mando.

Irrespective of the label it is excellent.

We love "on the road" songs and this is a fine example indeed.

And, of course, great guitar, great mix and a great message.

Torrey...I think they call it "newgrass" ...or maybe you just invented a new genre and it's killer...man you nailed those harmonies...I love hearing your vocals in an acoustic setting...and I love songs about home...it's one of the most comforting thoughts there is to know we have a home to go to...the mando intro lights it up from the get-go and the train beat carries us all the way home!

Torrey,

Cool album cover!

Your vocals in this are Outstanding! REALLY well recorded. PERFECT in the mix.
I like the Pop-Bluegrass-ness.
Killer BGVs

Nice mix.
Nice write.

Again - cannot stress enough - the vocals on this could not get any better. Whatever that chain was...write it down (and pass it on!!!)

A terrific listen.
