That Woman Is Going To Take Your Life

This song was inspired by two sentences that were said to me about 5 years ago. I built the song around them, although the story is otherwise pure fiction smile Bit boring and obviously too long tune, but I tried to add some color by introducing new instruments and new synth vocalists to affirm the message as the song progresses. I used Synthesizer V JUN as the lead, because JUN's voice seemed to fit the mood best. And there is an unintentional musical joke included, maybe somebody will catch it...

Vocalists Synthesizer V JUN (lead), Natalie & Asterian & Weina & Solaria & Kevin (backing)
Mixed in Cakewalk by BandLab

Lyrics:

Maybe you know what you're doing
and party like it's the final evening
or you could just close your eyes
and drool the days her nectar is streaming.

That woman is going to take your life
overdosing dopamine
defying the ravine
she takes you to the edge
says we should live first
and worry about it afterwards.

I can see clearly your neurosis
when you are just staring at your cellphone
you're waiting for her reply
naively like a dog for a chew bone.

That woman...

You are a poodle on her tight leash
you swallow politely all her whimsies
you'll fall hard down from the heights
if you hang on to her, blind and carefree.

That woman...

I'd like to send you off to rehab
but I fall believing in your ravings
there's too much love in your veins
injected in a moment of craving.

That woman...

You shouldn't fiddle with the fire
I'm warning again about the mantrap
be careful with someone's doll
your home can burn or you'll face a mishap.

That woman...

You could get lost on the verge
or end up to a mental purge
but does it really have significance
if you get your last high
the end will be perfect
if you smile when you die.

Janne, great work with those synth vocals
Super job on those harmonies
I really liked your instrumentation and mix
Those additions during the song made it a very easy listen

Janne, well, THAT's a sad story, isn't it? Lovely melody and backing track! The vocal arrangement is quite nice, too. My only suggestion is to perhaps improve the vocaloid performances. They hit all the right notes but sound a little too perfect and unnatural. I don't know anything about vocaloid programming so ignore me if this is off base. Really enjoyed your sad-but-beautiful song!

Janne, that was a very interesting listen. I marvel at some of the chord choices you come up with. They are things that I never would have thought of but they work out so well. Some very captivating lyrics that hold the listener’s attention. Joke? You wouldn’t be fiddling with us would you? I enjoyed my time spent listening,Tom

Hi, Janne.

Nice harmonies - when Asterian joins in, he really adds some punch!

It's funny how your vocal style comes through with the synthetic voices.

A bit long for my short attention span, but I managed to enjoy it anyway. wink

Cool. Very cool, Janne. At first I was taken aback by your title, but then thought of the woman who took my life. Six and a half minutes is just the album version. And I love it all. Cool vocals. You're good at that. The melody is really good, too. And I really dig it when they all come in together. You may think it's long, but when I got to the end I was still waiting for more. Maybe you still have to make that album version.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hi Janne,

Let me start with saying I was captivated by this song from start to finish.
Ok, I heard some things that can be improved, but the main thing is that the song and lyrics are so nice.
The lyrics were, in a way, also funny and romantic: "but does it really have significance if you get your last high. The end will be perfect if you smile when you die".
Very good!

The song is a bit different from what I'm used to hear from you. and a bit long.
But I loved it all the way.
Two minor things: first, that synth girl must sing less sharp and a bit lower in pitch (if possible). The male synth was very good.
Second, a little variation in the chorusses compared with the verses could give the song a little boost, if you understand what I mean.
But I enjoyed it a lot!

Janne,

That is some stellar work with the Synth V vocalists.

You have a great feel for placing these voices in just the right songs. This composition and combination of voices was perfect.

Much enjoyed!

HI Janne ...

A very interesting song. I marvel at how well you - and others here - use the synth vocals so nicely.

I listened to the end and enjoyed it all the way. Nicely done!

Take care,

Alan

Hi Janne.
Well done on those unique and amusing lyrics.
I felt his pain.
Music tracks were good.
I did wonder why the synth voice was in unison rather than harmonising though.

Thanks DC for your positive comment smile Well, I wouldn't call it a sad story when it ends with a smile laugh You are right about vocal being little too perfect, in this case I think the midi melody was already quite quantized when I imported it from Vocaloid to Synth V and the tempo is quite slow so the unnatural feeling is more clearly present. I usually don't quantize that much if I have played the melody directly via keyboard.

Thanks Tom for your nice comment smile Glad you noticed my fiddling wink I thought this had unusually few strange chords by my standards, maybe Am7b5 and G#dim got your attention, nice to hear they worked out.

Slightly too long perhaps but I am really impressed with the vocal synth programming and the overall vocal sound quality!
It's been a while since I heard one and clearly the quality is getting better every time.

Dear Janne,

This is really cool but I have a suggestion.

The part that I like the most about this is the lyrics because they're really funny and very well done.

I think you should consider raising the tempo, I think at least doubling it, and using some kind of Hip Hop style, and being really aggressive in the vocals and you might have a hit on your hands.

Just a thought.

Nice, even if I would probably prefer a shorter radio edit.
Is there a particular reason why Solaria sings the same melody as JUN? I ask because she sounds great in harmonies.

Someone else mentioned this, and I will too. That lead synth vocal sounds similar to you.

Lovely instrumentation and melody. Female harmony sounds good and natural.

I love this line: "I can see clearly your neurosis/when you are just staring at your cellphone."

Thanks David for enjoying my long one smile I wanted to use many different voices, like various people worried about the main character, so I'm glad that Asterian works (although he sings in unison, he sings also a lower part in the final chorus).

I'm not sure should I be worried about that my vocal style comes through, maybe I'm repeating some characteristic pattern too much wink

Thanks Hans, pleasure to read your positive words smile Glad you liked the lyrics also.

There are several female voices, but only one is singing higher in pitch, others have quite normal range. But maybe less sharp, yes. I'm not quite sure what you mean about variation in the choruses, at least I introduce the bass in the 2nd chorus and the drums in the 3rd choruses. Also a new backing singer joins in in each chorus (and three in the last chorus). But you are free to suggest more variations smile
