Give Me Something on Soundcloud Give Me Something on YouTube Here's an old one Dave & I did a few months ago. It's sort of about homelessness, more about helpfulness. I was homeless once. If I ever have to do it again, it'll be in the Caribbean. Key=G , Tempo 125, Length (m:s)=3:08 Style is _MINGLE.STY (Mingle Guitar Shuffle) RealTracks in style: 421:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm Blues Sw 120 RealTracks in style: 3702:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm AmericanaShuffleBrent Sw 120 RealDrums in style:NashvilleRadioShuffle^1-a:Snare, Hihat , b:Snare, Ride Dave Bell, AKA Blue Attitude, played guitar and I sang and played bass. Give Me SomethingGive me something I can hold on to. Give me something for my hope. My life is losing ground, and I'm drowning in the tears that are sliding down this slippery slope. But this feeling in my heart tells me I can get back up if you stretch out a helping hand. Give a brother something to help him live a life. Help a brother up to stand. Give me something. Help me. Give me anything. You have so much more to give. Give me what you can. I hope you understand. I just need your help to live. Give me lovin'. I could use good lovin'. Lovin' seems to make me whole. You know I need a lift, and your lovin' brings new life as it reaches to my very soul. Bring that feeling to my heart. Tell me I can get back up when you stretch out your loving hand. You can change my life now. Please chase away the clouds. I just want to understand. Give me something. Help me. Give me anything. You have so much love to give. Give me what you got. I know you got a lot. I just need some love to live. Bad days. Out all night. Sleeping underneath the bitter cold. Someone said it's nice, but that can't be right. The food I eat is mostly made of mold. I'm running out of line while I'm slowing down the pace. Bring me back into the fold. V- (G)5 C-G A D (C)3 (G)3 C D CH- G G C G D C A D BR-- (C)4 (G)4 D C C D

Marty,
Great song and a great chorus! Love your vocal and Dave's guitar compliments it perfectly.
Excellent mix and that 3702 guitar track sounds tremendous!

Sweet tune! Can't imagine there are many songs about homelessness as joyful as this one. The BiaB parts are really fine, but the human parts made this click for me. Bass and guitar are bouncy and fun, and the vocals absolutely rock, but in a playful way. Super job "finding the pony" in that chapter of your life! I'd personally look forward to hearing you and Dave collaborate about being homeless in the Caribbean, but that's perhaps a road best left untraveled. Ha!

Tough subject, great tune. Love the tempo change. Great guitar solo, some real country twang in there.

Marty and Dave, as usual when you two get together I know that I'm in for a treat. Great song about a very tough subject; you put the proper light on a serious problem. Great vocal, guitar leads, backing band, and mix.
I got banned from Weight Watchers for dropping a bag of M&Ms on the floor. It was the best game of Hungry Hippos I've ever seen!

You two gentlemen make a terrific team! A different approach to the subject - I like it! Your vocal is spot on, and Dave's licks are always so tasty. had a great listen!!!

Marty,
This is an important subject. First thought was that the music was too upbeat/positive for the subject. But this is more a hopeful song than a desperation song - so the music is, of course...just right. Dave does his usual perfect guitar work. The Marty Bass is, as always, smooth and buttery. Yumm.
Mix is excellent. Video is well done.

Thanks for writing this. I'm glad you managed to find your way out of homelessness. Not an Easy Thing to do. Big Kudos. My wife volunteers once a week with Feeding Tampa Bay at the Trinity Cafe (she is "captain" for that day - so I am dragged along) where lunch is served every day - to anyone who walks in the door. That turns out to be 200+ (there are 3 other locations, too). Getting to know these people and the reasons that they end up where they do (and every story is different) will change you. It has changed me. I used to ignore those people on the corner with the sign and all their belongings in garbage bags. Now, I will roll down the window and empty my change cup into an outstretched hand. It's nuisance change to me. It might be just enough to keep someone from going hungry today...

A very nice rocker, with a message! Of course, I always choose the video when there is one included. That guy with the dog in the beginning reminded me a little of Mick Fleetwood in his earlier days (but obviously a lot less fortunate).

Bob Thanks, Bob. It's cool how Dave fits so well with every genre type, and that's our man Brent on the 3702. Ha! Thanks so much, Ron. Ah, yes, homeless in St. Lucia and The Bahmas were some of my favorite people on the planet. Dave would love it there. This song is more about helpfulness and and hope; kind of from the homeless point of view. Tough subject, great tune. Love the tempo change. Great guitar solo, some real country twang in there. Thanks, Rick. Getting those BiaB guys to slow down in sync is easy, of course. They made it easy to match their pace. Right? Dave has twang. He would've made a great sesion player. Marty and Dave, as usual when you two get together I know that I'm in for a treat. Great song about a very tough subject; you put the proper light on a serious problem. Great vocal, guitar leads, backing band, and mix. Thanks, Mario. Yeah there are mindless folk among the homeless as there are among the homed, but most of them laugh and have fun, too; many are very intelligent. Seems most can't get into society's money-value system.

I love the contrast between the sad lyrics and the overall upbeat mood of the song. It is always good to remind others of those who have been forgotten. A little help from our side can go a long way. Great job from U2

Marty...I have to agree with a lot of the comments so far in the music and subject seem to be a paradox of sorts...but sometimes to get the message across you have to get people to listen and the music you and Dave make here is contagious and appealing...the lyrics remind us to understand that "there but for the grace of God..." all of us if we were homeless would appreciate a helping hand and a compassionate heart...thanks for the reminder...great music (as usual)...it was your signature sound!

Brilliant The slowed down section, and the following one, returning to the original tempo, are genius ideas as, for that matter, is the whole song. Made me smile, despite the sad lyrics. If one went busking with this one, one'd get plenty of money thrown into one's busking hat, of that I'm sure. Superb job

Alan Thanks, Alan. It's supposed to be more from the homeless's perspective, which is not always as sad as we'd suppose. And Dave's treatment is always a treat. Marty,

WOW, Floyd, the more I get to know about you the more I love ya, man. And now I get a peak of the good woman behind the good man. Hats off to the Captain. Right? People should stop to get to know them. Most have a great sense of humor, and some have all the best cures for this troubled world. They have the true sense of sharing, too. I've had some wonderful experiences with some, and had to give this that bit of an upbeat feel. So glad you know. A very nice rocker, with a message! Of course, I always choose the video when there is one included. Rob Thank you, Rob. I like to believe he was paid enough money for being a model that he was able to move to the Carribean. I love the contrast between the sad lyrics and the overall upbeat mood of the song. It is always good to remind others of those who have been forgotten. A little help from our side can go a long way. Great job from U2 Thanks, BD. I've known a few folks who were quite happy being homeless. The contrast represents them.

Marty, this is a subject that has gotten a lot of attention lately. It’s always been a problem but it seems to be getting worse. There are no easy solutions. I’ve often said that sad songs can be a little easier to listen to when put in a more upbeat backing track. You took it a step further by slowing down that one section. Dave’s guitar and your bass are both perfect for the song. The vocals sound good and of course the lyrics are the centerpiece of this fine production. Well done and worth many listens, Tom

Marty, without fail, your songs always bring a smile to my day. Even though this is a song about homelessness or helplessness (we get to choose as the listener, I suppose) the genre, tempo, and your vocals still put a good spin on the situation. Great job!

Solid song, as usual. Excellent vocals and guitar, and good write. Catchy and upbeat, works with the lyric. I knew the slowdown was coming, but it still took me by surprise.

Marty,
I'm amazed at how easily this kind of subject matter can be turned into a song. It's not something that anyone can do. I think your vocals are also very appropriate. The tempo changes are also done well. Dave's guitar also hits the spot. The video is also great. Enjoyed my listen and watch a lot.
Best regards.

I've been listening to your lovely new album, and this is one of the more cheerful songs on it, musically and melodically, so it's quite suprising that the message is not that cheery. But it's the hope that shines brightly and you and Dave have made it work perfectly. The chorus is very catchy sing-along one. The slowdown is very creative idea, to give the listener a chance to hear also the darker side of the situation (and I like the bass sound there). The band, the mix, the vocals, harmonies - everything clicks into a perfect shuffle.

If one went busking with this one, one'd get plenty of money thrown into one's busking hat, of that I'm sure. Superb job Thanks, James. The slower bridge is supposed to convey the hardships of homelessness, while the rest is about hope. Marty, this is a subject that has gotten a lot of attention lately. As Floyd mentioned the juxtaposition of narrative and vibe is, initially, contradictory but eight seconds in the point that this is a song of hope rather than hopelessness makes itself clear. fabulous bass n guitar parts. There were one or two spots where the vocal at the start of a line was lower than the rest. I really enjoyed the song, the message & the vibe.
