A different point of view. Indeed. For me, I usually have a pre-defined song and tempo, and I'm looking for a style that fits them. A songwriter may prefer to find a style that suits their purpose and then fit the tempo of the song to that of the style. Both approaches obviously have their merits and demerits.
Jazz relative beginner, starting at a much older age than was helpful.
