Have you considered a laptop computer instead of an mp3 player.? I use one to gig with, I can go from song to song instantly if I want, decide what song to play at the very last second (no playlist needed), and have immediate controls over all the functions. If I'm doing a fast song, and had a slow song planned next, but change my mind because I think they want another fast one, two or three key presses sets the song up. When the current song ends, I hit Enter and the next one starts immediately.
