I'm breaking the rules. This is the acoustic demo I made back in 2011 of It Don't Feel Much Like Christmas This Year. (My father had died earlier in the year and I was feeling blue,) I posted a BIAB version in 2016 that is nowhere as good. So as much as BIAB has made my music better, there are times for acoustic simplicity: one mic on my vocal and guitar.

Here in Minnesota there will be now snow this year, so what goes around, comes around. Cheers!

It Don't Feel Much Like Christmas This Year

The trees are bare
The ground is brown
Ain't no snow coming round
It don't feel much like Christmas this year
The neighborhood is brightly lit
With front yards full of plastic [*****]
But it don't feel much like Christmas this year

BRIDGE:
The family circle has shrunken down
Not much left in this northern town
Silent nights in front of me
I just might torch this Christmas tree

Where's the joy
The peace the hope
The world keeps playing rope-a-dope
It don't feel much like Christmas this year

BRIDGE
The baby savior
Has left his crib
To grab a Micky D's McRib
It don't feel much like Christmas this year
Living in this ho-ho hell
Waiting for the last noel
It don't feel much like Christmas this year

Fred, this was absolutely fantastic!
You should be more like this one.
"The neighborhood is brightly lit
With front yards full of plastic [*****]" What a great line, so true.
I could hear Arlo Guthrie singing this, and this is a big compliment.
Loved it

Thanks, Mario. The song came out of nowhere all those years ago. Arlo or John Prine were in my head I assume. Simple is as simple is.

Excellent write.

The acoustic guitar and vocals sound great.

There's no rule on this forum that says songs have to use BiaB tracks - just that you need to list which ones are BiaB tracks.

Cheers to you! smile

I think the song is excellent, both lyrically and in terms of the performance.
The best non-Christmas song I've heard in a long time.
My new favorite song of yours!

Merry Christmas, Fred! This is one of those songs that would sound good in any production. I particually like this simple version with just you and guitar. Well done.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hi Fred,

The reason for the song was a sad one.
But the basis perfomance works out great,
And the lyrics are simply good!

HI Fred,

As always, your vocal is awesome! I have a couple with just vocal and acoustic guitar. I'm not sure if I've posted either of them here. I'll have to look back and see.

My father died back in 1968 - he was 67 years old. We weren't close, but I still grieved his death for a long time. Although most of our times were not particularly good, he gave me the two things I love in life more than anything (other than the people in my circle) - baseball and he taught me the first chords on a guitar I ever learned. My guitar playing gave me a comfortable and good life. I wish our other times had been as good.

Wonderful song and presentation.

Merry Christmas

Alan

Wow, Alan, I didn't realize my comment about my Dad would generate a number of comments on this post. We all had different things to deal with. My Dad was bemused by me buying a second guitar. He asked, How many guitars can you play at one time.... We never got things straight after that.

Hello Fred
nice song
well played and sung
Many will agree with the lyrics
Especially in these times, Christmas is no longer the same
as it used to be - what a pity
Merry Christmas anyway
Many greetings
Andi ;-)
