After you set the mute option and then close down the Bar settings, do you regenerate the song? Bar settings are not a volume control, they are instructions to tell BIAB what you want to have happen the next time the song is generated (and not simply played). On the other hand, the volume control found in Audio Edit works on existing material and does not need the the song to be regenerated.

I notice that you pressed "Play". This will only regenerate the song if the song has not be generated. If play is pressed after the song has been generated, and before setting Bar Settings, then the existing unmuted generation will play (even if you've set Bar Settings). Have you tried using the "Generate and play" button after making the mute setting?

Lastly... If the track that has bar settings applied to it is frozen, this might also impact on Bar Settings.
