Floyd...well that was different...stylistically at least...but I liked it...every now and then the hair has to come down and you just gotta rock out! certainly a contemporary theme for 2024...great hook "fear grows in the dark"...perhaps no truer words were ever spoken...no soft tender ballad of the lovelorn here...guns blazing!

Floyd,

Love the branch out here . . . killer change-up. Great production elements—crisp and compelling! Listening with headphones on and it’s deep and full. Love that guitar solo . . . Punk Murray is one of my favorites (particularly when it sits so well in the sound as it does here). Like that little BGV finish as the end. Good stuff!

Hi, floyd jane.

Well, that was catchy.

As usual, a solid write, well sung, although (for me) an unexpected style. The short notes of "Everybody's out to get you" works really nicely against the chorus, as does the celesta.

Fun listen, despite the timely message.

You have proven in the past your ability to step outside your usual styles and deliver the goods. The lyrics are timely and scary. The vocal cuts and is tucked at the same time. Everything is clear and balanced. This is not your usual song concerning love lost or found but rather an important reminder of the sad state of affairs we have allowed ourselves to fall prey to. Well done rocker, Tom

Man, I love that Celeste (our daughters name, too). Hey, I was watching the vid on what's new in Biab2024 and noticed some Floyd pianos in the demo. Any relation?

When I saw all those Metal RTs hit BIAB, I thought who-in-the-world is ever going to use those????
I figured what-the-heck....

I had to go back and listen a second time, this time on the buds and set to an appropriately feisty volume level. Ahhhh yes!

The dramatic drum intro was very promising. The drums were really nicely played with fills and such. I liked the overall drum track a lot. At 2:30 where the drums come back in, they could have had a more dynamic re-entrance..... And perhaps a few beats later for a better impact. One thing I will do is for the drums coming back in is to use a volume envelope in my DAW to bump the first few beats of that drum track UP a couple of dB and then as soon as the instruments/band comes back in, drop the level immediately to it's normal level. That makes the drums HUGE for a second to increase the impact. Leaving it at the same level tends to get it buried when it needs to be front and center.

My only nit with this mix, in my personal opinion, is the overall low end. It's got an appropriate low end for pop and maybe even pop country, but it's not pop. This is more metal/rock.... the drums, especially the kick and snare need slightly more punch and the bass guitar really needs to be a huge component of the sound. I mentioned above how cool that drum intro was but then the bass guitar didn't quite enter at the appropriate level to balance the mix on the low end. The kick and the bass working together are the foundation of the band. I think overall, the drums are probably at the right point.... maybe a slight tweek and if the bass was balanced against the drums, they would be exactly where they needed to be. This genre needs a more substantial low end.

Aside from that, this is a good rocker. The Celeste added a unique flair to the ending.

Glad you liked it.
This is not a Metal song. The Pop aspect and the Country aspect are more important. So, as you noted, the low end was appropriate for that. (I don't have any problem hearing the bass on any of the places I've listened to this). I labelled it "PopMetalCountry" - the Metal part being the least important, if you have to label stuff.

My only nit is with the right side rhythm guitar...but it's also about the best BIAB has to offer of that ilk so given the tools at hand:
Fabulous.

Thanks ray. Very much appreciated. This kinda stuff almost writes itself...
I don't really know anything about Metal guitars and what they should sound like.

In fact, your clean voice positively enhances the contrast between the raw guitars and the dark content of your lyrics.
Excellent choice of instruments, and ending a loud guitar song with a Celeste is right up my alley.

Thanks, Brian.
To tell you the truth, I did not expect my vocals to fit this either. Adding the near-constant 3rd-below helped fill it out some and give it a Bit more genre-fitting-help... I then added a copy of the vocal with a heavily distorted Nectar preset, underneath and that helped some more...

First of all, great song, I just absolutely love the lyrics.

Band sounds good to me too. Not that I listen to much metal mind you, but I do listen to the hard rock music that preceded it.

Excellent outro!

Really well done, Floyd, enjoyed very much.

Thanks, Dave. I've never been able to listen to Metal. And, of course, this wasn't - in any way - trying to "be a Metal song" ('cause WHO can sing like that? Very few.) The idea was to incorporate some of the typically Metal sounds or instruments into a Country style song - to create something new and interesting. IF I could pull it off.

It's metal ya know, so just a thought.

People DO want more artistic freedom around here, you know.

Good song.

Well, yeah....how many guys do YOU know who can sing like that? I think you at least need hair to be able to do that.

"everybody is out to get you, get them first whatever you do"

Sometimes proactive ain't good.

Spot on and timely and right in our wheelhouse. And amazingly well presented by diving into a totally different genre.
I think Ray's comments are special as he is the forum guy that gets this style.

You applied just the right amount of grit on everything to make that dive convincing ... love the tag.

Guess if you turned more than 180 degrees you'd be heading back but this is about as far as you can get from fj. smile

Creative, contemplative, provocative and so well put together.

So what next?

- the mirroring of the ‘everybody's out to get you…’ lines – to me this is really the strong point of this recording.
Not sure if it is the vocal processing chain you’re using or an accent thing but I’m really hearing ‘fare’ and not fear.
There’s perhaps an overuse of the harm voices – I’d have preferred at least first part of verse section with just the mel voice, so that a 2nd voice line (or even 2tracking) introduces a contrast
Finally Floyd you get my critic’s award for coming in at less than 3:00 – a lesson to us all!

Marc - thanks for the detailed remarks.
"fare" vs."fear" - that's just the way I talk....

FJ,
Song started, I thought I clicked a wrong link smile
I applaud you for taking a super punch at the genre outside your comfort zone. Quite unexpected and amazing. Composition skills on display.
Powerful backing tracks, super vocals & harmonies. And the message that is loud and clear. Unfortunately it's a cult, and cult is a form of sickness. Past and current history is a solid proof of that. Hopefully, like sickness it will go away. As Solomon said: "This too shall pass." In any case, great tune. Enjoyed it and thank you for sharing.

Misha.

WOW !!! That's a different sound for you. I feel the rage and anger both in the music and fantastic lyrics. This songs works on every level. Like the production, and especially the synth and ending is great.

floyd,

Cool Rock!
The sound is a combination of hard rock and metal rock.
It's perfect for the content of the song.
Your vocals also fit very well with the accompaniment.
The 2020s is an era of war. That's so sad.
I think that is expressed very well in this tune.

Best regards.
