This is one I wrote just last week, anhttps://on.soundcloud.com/rqcwpd I think it'll hits home with a lot of Americans!!

Burning Old Glory
https://on.soundcloud.com/rqcwp

In this land of the brave, where freedom should reign,
there's a fire a burnin', that driving me insane.
They say it's just a symbol, but it means so much more,
it's time to take a stand, let's settle the score.
Chorus:
They're burning old glory, and watching it turn to ash,
for those of you who disrespect, your world's about to crash.
We will rise together, and we won't back down,
Stop burning old glory, we're gonna stand our ground.

Ole Toby said it right, we're all proud to be free,
but some folks think it cool to burn our flag in victory.
They say it's just a protest, a form of free speech,
it's a slap in the face to the ones who fought for each.

They're burning old glory, and watching it turn to ash,
for those of you who disrespect, your world's about to crash.
We will rise together, and we won't back down,
Stop burning old glory, we're gonna stand our ground.

I pledge allegiance, to the flag, of the United States of America,
and to the republic for which it stands , one nation, under God,
Indivisable, with liberty and justice for all.

They're burning old glory, and watching it turn to ash,
for those of you who disrespect, your world's about to crash.
We will rise together, and we won't back down,
Stop burning old glory, we're gonna stand our ground.

Ronnie, obviously a heartfelt tune, as your passionate lyrics and vocals clearly show. The tension between patriotism and free speech is very real, as you note.

Your voice track comes through very strong but overpowers the band in your mix. You can settle the vocals back in the mix quite a bit without losing the power of your message.

Thanks for posting!

Ronnie, great song with a great message.

I agree that you vocal is to far out front, however I would bring up the backing tracks. YMMV
There were a couple of pops in your vocal. You may want to tame them. Some of the words starting with F for example.

This is a really good song that just needs a little polish to may it really shine IMHO.

Ron...this is really a great track...I agree with DC Ron that the vocal is over powering a powerful band...backing the vocal up with volume and maybe a touch of reverb would put you back into the band space where the vocal could serve as a member...I don't think you would lose any of the power and effect you're looking for...as for the subject matter...I agree that burning the flag that brave men have died to raise on bloody hills in mortal battle is not a proper form of free speech...if you hate this nation that much (and you're a citizen) then speak out as loudly as you want...peacefully assemble together and say what you want but when you begin to destroy other people's property and dishonor the men and women who have died to give you that right then you've stepped across a line...if your not a citizen of this land (the USA) then those rights don't apply to you at all...so go on back to your own lands and see how free speech works a out for you...Ronnie, you got me all stirred up...anyway...I liked the song!

Hi Ronnie,

Excellent song!

Strong write, and strong vocal. I also liked the band you have assembled, very powerful, fits the song.

Yes, the vocal is a little hot in spots but that's an easy fix. It didn't take away from my enjoyment of the song.

Man, this was an enjoyable listen and a great message.

I guess I'd agree with folks above regarding pushing your vocal back in the mix a notch or 2.
Getting a mix right is tough business as I am finding in my own songs.
Great job.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Great song Ronnie. A little outside your usual style as I recall, and though the production could use a little work as others have mentioned, it came out well - congratulations. As for me and my family, we're some of those who will, and have, rose with you, not backed down and stood our ground. Thanks for writing our story!

You delivered your sentiment well with the write and vocals (could do with some gain reduction).
Patriotism and free speech have indeed always danced cautiously around each other.
A delicate balance indeed but one that should be respected with zero threats of retribution.

Hi Ronnie,

I agree with the previous comments about the vocal being a bit too much out front. I's leave the vocal as is, and bring the backing tracks more forward in the mix. I encourage free speech and the right for disagreement, should you truly disagree. But preaching, and definitely committing, violence and threats of harm is outside those rights. I'm a disabled Vietnam vet (got shot and hand grenade fragmentation to the face). We fought, in one way or another, for people to have freedom and rights - but not to abuse them. I'll leave it at that.

I agree with your message and think you crafted a fine song. I always enjoy your music!

Take care,

Alan

So well written, Ronnie. You've written the perfect melody to accompany those terrific lyrics. Well said, sir. I like that the vocal is out front. You sing it so well and the message is the important thing. I got rushes.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hi, Ronnie.

Nicely done. I agree with the other commenters - the vocal is out of balance with the song.

That said, I guess I'll be one the of few voices of dissent here.

The phrase "stand our ground" means using deadly force to protect oneself from a violent crime.

That is, Burn the American flag, and I will kill you.

This threat of violence against free speech is not protected speech.

It's the opposite of standing for freedom. And it's wrong.

Glad to hear it! smile

You have every right to express distaste at flag burning. Even Justice Scalia did exactly that when he explained why he cast the deciding vote in the Johnson case:

But since the SCOTUS has declared flag burning a protected First Amendment right, there are only two legal means to take action - re-litigate the issue to the SCOTUS, or amend the Constitution. Anything else is a call to extra-judicial action.

Obviously, lawless rioters in the street are a different case - but that's not what your song appears to be about.

The following phrases could support the idea of peacefully taking action to protect the flag through legal process, depending on context:

it's time to take a stand
   We will rise together
   we won't back down

But you also use "fighting words", which create a different context:

   let's settle the score
   your world's about to crash
   we're gonna stand our ground

It's not my place to tell you how to write a song. I'm only pointing out the language serves as a call to violent action.

Changing the "fighting words" is a remediation, but I think it still leaves open the question: what are you calling the listener to do.

Saying something like We need to amend Constitution to enshrine the flag and honor those who fought for it and what it represents would remove any ambiguity of your message.

Again, I'm not trying to tell you how to write the song, or what you should say. I'm only saying that it's not communicating what you intended.

Thanks for listening, I appreciate it! laugh

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
