Hi Mal,
It should work. Below are a couple of thoughts that might help.
Did you run the setup program on the USB drive and then select the installation option that allows you to run RT and RD from the USB drive? According to a number of posts on these forums, this installation is necessary.
If you have done the above...
Under Opt >> Preferences >> Realtracks >> "Use a custom folder location for Realtracks", have you double-checked that (a) the "use a custom folder..." option is checked and that (b) the Realtrack path is correct? On the right-hand side of the "Update" button, there's an icon (although on my computer it's a blank square) that allows you to navigate to the Realtracks folder. It might be worth trying this instead of typing in the path.
If the above works, a similar approach is needed for the Realdrums (under Opt >> Preferences).
